Feeling guilty
 

Okay, I guess the grooming thing brought something out in me... LOL

I'm feeling like the worst yorkie mommy in the world!!

I don't know why I feel like this; Sadie is a happy 7-month old puppy, she's a princess, for the most part. LOL. Lots of attention all the time, and no real behavioral problems. She's 99.5% pee-pee pad trained, for both #1 and #2.

When we first got her we decided to basically only really enforce the pee-pee pad training, as we live in the "basement" of a condo complex and when we got her in the winter it was way too cold for her to be going up stairs every twenty minutes, and there's no way we'd ever be able to let her out on her own, anyway. Not a great area.

Now I kinda feel like maybe we missed the boat, and should've potty trained her to go outside anyway, I feel like a failure :( No matter where she is, my mom's house, my boyfriend's mom house, if there's a pad, she'll go on it, so there's no accidents. I just feel like maybe I should've trained her to go "normally" like other dogs do.

Not to mention, she still eats her poop if I don't catch her quick enough. That makes me feel horrible. Like if I trained her outside, that wouldn't be an issue.

Grrr. I'm sorry to be a whiner. She's just such a good girl and I love her so much and I feel like I should've been a better mommy throughout this whole thing.

Hey, don't feel bad. Summerlin will pee on a pee pad anywhere, but she rarely wants to go outside. Even when I take her for walks and to the rec center, sometimes for hours, she doesn't want to pee.... she will wait until we get home and run straight to the pee pad! :eek: I tried to train her to go outside too, but she doesn't like cold ground and she doesn't like wet ground, so her options were rather limited. She doesn't seem to be any the worse for it and i don't imagine Sadie is either.... sometimes I start feeling guilty for the dumbest things, but then I can always come on here and someone else has made the same mistakes I have.... count on yt to make you feel better! :)

It sounds to me like ur doing your best,so dont be so hard on yourself!I was sooooooooo happy when the weather broke,so Max could start going outside.Because for some reason I could never pee-pee pad train him,he just wouldnt do it consistantly.I got him in Lake Mary Florida when he was about 3mos old, he was already trained to go outside.When we got back home to Detroit it was to cold for him to go outside,so we had lots of mistakes.Now Im just as happy as can be,totally outside trained!:thumbup:

I don't see anything wrong with her being pad trained. I pad trained Jake because we got him in the fall, and I didn't want to take him out in the winter because he was so small. Now that the weather is nicer, I've been taking him outside everyday. At first, he was scared but now he LOVES going outside to play, and he will potty outdoors.

You can still train her for outdoors if that's what you want to do. Just start by getting her used to being outside so that she's not afraid, then start moving her pad closer and closer to the door, and then take it outside with you. She will get the idea.

Don't feel bad about pad training. I'm not sorry I've pad trained. It works out best for us since we get lots of snow and cold temps in the winter. But, I do think it's important for them to be outdoors in the nice weather, and the exercise is good for them.

My two are pad trained but they also go outside too. Look at it this way.....if you had her trained to go outside only and it was pouring rain or freezing weather and she wouldn't go potty in it, then where do you think she's going to put it. :rolleyes: Don't worry about it. Let her have her pads and sooner or later she will also start going potty outside too. Pad trained small dogs are so much easier to travel with too. Just plop a pad down anywhere. When we go into motels, I don't like going outside early mornings or at night, so they just use the pad. :p

I agree, there's nothing wrong with pee pad training a yorkie :) Our yorkie and maltese both pee on pee pads anywhere they go. I think it makes it soo much easier on them and us. Plus, our yorkie has to be able to have access to a place to urinate at all times because he has bladder stones.


Oh, I forgot to say, that they will go potty outside also when we take them outside.

There is a thread on here about what to do about them eating their poop. There is something that you can put in the puppies food so they will not eat it. I will see if I can find the thread and post it for you.;)

Okay, I couldn't find the thread I was looking for. Here is what I found:
There is a spice called ACCENT. You can find it in the spice isle at the grocery. Put a 1/4 of tsp. on their food, and it should do the trick.

There is something in it that does not taste too good the second time around! :D

I went through the guilty dog mommy stage too, but it passed. I have many reasons for using pee pads: 1. I'm lazy. I live in an apartment and I'm not the type to want to take my dog outside to go potty at 6am in February when it's 12 degrees outside. 2. Yorkies have itty bitty bladders. I like him to have the option to go whenever he wants. 3. I travel quite a bit and it's nice to know that we never have to worry about finding a spot to potty.

And besides those reasons, Howie prefers it!! I always joke and say that his a$$ is too good for grass. But, really, we'll go out for a walk and he'll hold it until we get inside (especially in colder weather). You have absolutely zero to feel guilty about!!!!
