New to Yorkie Love Hi All I am from South Africa and am a new mommy to a 7.5 week old male yorkie. His name is Lee-Roy. He has been with us a family of 4 for three days now. I am so nervous as all the info I ever read is about illness and possible death. I have read a few posts on this site about food and have a question I would love to hear your opinions on and that is Q: Is chicken and rice a no no as that is all I have been feeding him. I boil the chicken and rice and then cut it up into tiny bits i then add a little milko pup and twice a day add to that some glucose, Is what I am doing ok? |
First of all WELCOME To Yorkie Talk and Let me be the first say you are now being OWNED by a Yorkie. :aimeeyork I only feed bagged pet food I don't do my own cooking so I'll let someone else anwer your question. Welcome again, Dawn |
As far as food. i suggest puppy food but i kno alot of people put some bits of chicken and rice in there. :) |
Welcome to YT. I'm afraid we only feed bagged puppy food. We actually do a 50/50 mix of Purina Puppy Chow and Royal Canin for Yorkshire Terriers. Good luck, love to see some pictures of your new puppy! |
Welcome to Yt!!! I too only give my yorkie royal canin yorkie food!! I was always under the impression that human food was not good for their systems!! I am sure if I am incorrect that someone will post info to same from this site!! :) But welcome and I can't wait to see photos of your little one!!! |
Certain human food is fine - as long as it's not loaded with fat or spices or anything. Things to avoid would be chocolate, raisins/grapes, seeds of fruit (but the fruit itself cut up into small pieces is fine), onions... You can give him rice and chicken but you need to mix that with a nutritional supplement for puppies/dogs otherwise he'll become unhealthy! Congrats on your new little boy. :) |
Welcome to YT...............congrat on your new baby!:aimeeyork |
Hi welcome to YT Can't wait to see pictures. |
homecooking is great but you just have to make sure he is getting a variety of veggies, meat and a grain... also make sure he is getting a suppliment like Missing Link. Cant' wait to see pictures!! |
Hi and welcome to YT. Cooking for your baby is the most natural and safe thing you can do. Dog food is the most un-natural food you can feed and can only cause your baby some major health problems. I don't mean to scare you, but this is true. |
food 1 Attachment(s) Hi and welcome. Keep reading on here as I am also a fairly new Yorkie owner and I have learned so many things. As far as the food--- I tried several things when I first got Topaz and he got sick or have the scoots. My vet told me to keep trying until I found something that settled him. I finally tried puppy pedagree and it worked great. If I try to give him too many other things he throws it back up. Their little tummys are not strong enough for a lot of things and in the bagged food they get a lot of vitamins that they need. |
Hello. I feed Shooter and Emma chicken and rice of course they also get their dry food too. It hasn't seemed to affect them but I don't give them alot of it either. |
