How to Avoid Dog Bites in Children A study by Beck done in 1975 indicated that 87% of biting dogs are intact males and most dogs bites occur in or near the victims home. Another study by Sacks in 1989 indicated that 70% of the children that were killed by dogs were under the age of 10 and 22 % were under the age of one year with 7% being sleeping infants. read more hereAccording to a 1994 study by Mathews and Lattal approximately one million dog bites occur every year in the United States – according to the study 60-70% of those involve children, boys are bitten more often than girls and a third of the dogs that attack children are owned by the family. http://www.leerburg.com/kidbites.htm |
Thanks for the post, it is so scary what a dog can do to our children. My daughter has been attacked twice by two different dogs (one was the family dog). Thankfully she is not afraid of them! I would be:( |
The pics with the Mastif and the baby were a little shocking,i would be scared that the dog would hurt the baby just by laying on it?It has some great info though! |
I wasn't scared of dogs until I read that! (I've been nipped before by a dog) Eeek. |
Great info. I am scared of big dogs, I don't trust them no matter how nice they are, unless they were mine cause I know how they were raised. But thank goodness I only have small dogs :D |
thanks for the post...it was very educational... |
Great information .... you're never too old to learn! I didn't know that one of the wrong things to do is make eye contact!! Thanks!!! |
i was bitten by a dog friday at work trying to sauder a to short clipped nail she wasnt being bad i had ahold of her then she turned and still managed to get me ! i wont take for granted that a dog wont bite ever again just because their not acting agressive or bad!!! thing is i had alreasy fixed it but i wanted to make sure it was doen so she woulndt bleed. |
My boyfriends nephew was just bitten by the family dog the other day; it is a German Shepard. And apparently the boy was being lifted up by his grandfather and the dog became jealous because he wanted to play. The dog latched onto my boyfriend's nephew's leg and pulled him back to the ground. He is only 2 1/2 so the damage was pretty bad. The muscle and tissue were severely damaged because the dog managed to wrap his whole mouth around the boys leg. I feel so bad for him whenever he sees Bella he screams and crys. He is paranoid of ANY dog big or small. |
Wonderful information, what are the parents of the baby thinking!! Oh my WOW |
Great infos . Peoples should never make eye contact with a dog they don't know no matter if its a big or a small dog . Even with small dogs , we should be careful . Peoples have a bad tendency to think that a little dog don't bite very hard . A bite is a bite no matter the dog's weight . |
Thanks for the good info. |
GREAT info....and I love all animals but I'm always apprehensive especially around big dogs though.....but careful around small ones as well.....one of my chi's bit my face when my son first brought him home.....but after that I knew I couldn't let him near children.....and anyone that asked to pet him got a firm no..... |
my friend katie was a petsmart with her rottie. and a lady came in with her 4 kids (ages toddler to about 10) and the mother was looking at something and all 4 kids ran up to the dogs, screaming, jumping, ect.. LUCKILY bubbles (her rottie) is a sweetheart and very mellow/submissive, especially to kids. My friend was asking the mother to please control her kids because they were scaring the dog. and the lady LAUGHED! 1 of the kids pulled bubbles's ears HARD so the dog let out a yelp. and then the lady runs over, grabs her kids, and sais that "THAT DOG IS DANGEROUS! IT SHOULDNT BE ALLOWED IN PUBLIC" my mouth was wide open. i couldnt beleive she had let her kids run up to a strange dog and about what she said. I was about to kill her, but katie said she was used to people discriminating and being mean to bubbles because of her breed |
