Puppy from a newspaper? Did any1 get their puppy from a small breeder that advertises in a newspaper? If you see the living enviorment, parents ect.. is it ok? also, dont puppies usually end up around the same size as the parents? ps: im not looking to buy a puppies from a paper, my friend is going to visit one this weekend and i want to give her some info. |
all mine werer found in the paper and thats one of the ways i advertise, its a very popular way to advertise |
ya i found princess from a newspaper and went online to the newspaper to see pics.. visited the home and saw the parents.. nothing wrong with it as long as you know what you're doing  |
Nope, I don't think that there is anything wrong with it at all :) Just yes - be sure to go and visit the home and SEE where the dogs are kept, you will want to see their living conditions. Also, get a good look at BOTH of the parents. And just to be on the safe side, I would ask for references. Also it would be a good idea to ask how long they have been breeding. No guarantee that they will tell you the truth, but I would still ask  |
the first yorkie that I went to see was from an advertisement in my local paper. A lot of people do that. Someone told me that a lot of Hobbie breeders advertise this way. As long as you go and check out the situation and make a judgement call based on that I am sure you will do just fine. Good luck and keep us posted. |
thanks for the info :) If you see both parents, and if they are both small. wont the puppy be small also? |

I bought all 3 of mine from my local paper:) i like to see where they live how they have been taken care of, and seeing the parents is nice to.good luck to your friend.:) |
I found my yorkie doing a local search on the web, looked at some websites. contacted the breeders and visited the homes. My decision on which breeder i got him from was from the way she took care of her own yorkies (6) and how clean her home was with those yorkies and she had a new litter of 4 puppies and you would think they were human babies the way she was with them!!! i felt really good when i left knowing she was a caring breeder |

I got Mojo from a paper ad. The day the paper came out I just looked out of curiousity and saw an ad for an AKC registered 10 wk male for $300 and i called imediatly lol but I think it's ok. as long as the enviornment and the parents are ok then it should be ok |
You have to be careful about getting from the paper (as you do anywhere else.. but I feel especially from the paper as some shadier people could be advertising there) as you could end up with a dog who isn't up to standards (or among other problems). I think it's best to go with someone with has references. |
There is nothing wrong with finding your puppy from referrals, newspapers, internet--always get referrals; have puppy vet checked; take all the recommended precautions. Stay away from pet stores--unless you personally see where the puppys are delivered from. Good luck. |

What happens is often those who advertise in the newspaper are "backyard breeders" and more concerned about making money rather than breeding good dogs! I would check out the parents and the breeder. He/she should ask you questions, and you should ask questions as well. A good breeder is concerned about placing her pups into the best homes. Don't ever feel that you're asking too many questions - there's no such thing! (well, unless you deviate from the topic of dogs :p ) Ask if he/she has a contract, does the contract say that you must spay/neuter the pup, does it protect against hereditary diseases for at least a year (liver shunt, etc.)? The parents should be healthy. The house should be clean and there shouldn't be any odors or anything of that sort. Ask how many times he breeds the female (a female should only be bred once a year), and about the male. He/she definitely should let you see both, it's okay if he says that he used a stud service for the male (so there's not a male dog in the house). The mother/father dog should be fairly social. A bit of wariness is okay, as all mothers are concerned when strangers are around their babies, but aggression is definitely not okay. Also, ask about socialization - are the dogs kept in the house or are they outside/away from the goings-on of the house? This could lead to aggression/fear problems later on with your pup. Hope this helps! Good luck finding the Yorkie of your dreams. :) |
