Both of mine who weigh in a 4lbs full grown had theres at 4 months with no problems at all, never knew they had them, but never got whiped out on any of there shots eather..Judy |
I just had Charlie's rabies shot done... not by consent either... the vet did it when he did his last round of puppy shots and his neuter. In my county you have to have the rabies shot BY six months. I was really weary about him getting it this early, but he didn't have any reaction to it. So I'm thankful. Some members on this site have had really negative experiences with their pup's rabies shots so you're going to hear a lot of "it was fine, and oh my gosh don't do it" You and your vet have to decide what's right for your dog. Personally, if you're not "out" and around other dogs, there's no harm waiting until 6 months if you're county, city allows it. Good luck deciding! |
I prefer to wait, but most do just fine at a younger age. I don't recommend getting it with other shots though. |
4 months (16 weeks) is the normal time to get it. Emmy just got hers, although they waited a week in between her last round of puppy DHPP shot and the rabies! She's still only 1.25 lbs too! |
Both Chachi and Jewels got their rabies at 4 mos. Although I worried about it they both did fine with no reactions. |
Okay I feel better...I was getting all delusional over here...lol |
I only had to give Reagan the last two sets of shots. Well when I took her into get the first of those she yelped quite a bit but was fine that night. The last included the Rabies and something else I feel like a bad parent for not knowing what the other was but oh well. Anyway apparently she remember the other set because before they even put the needle in she was screaming. She was such a baby, I know its bad but I had to laugh cause heck they hadn't even touched her with it and she had already started. Once the vet saw me laughing she kind of laughed a little herself. Well she said that Reagan may be sore that night since she wiggled so much and she was. She wouldn't let to touch her at all but other than that she was fine. She was running around like a little rabbit and everything she just wouldn't let you hold her. This didn't have anything to do with her age though, so I wouldn't worry too much. She was about 4 and a half months, and didn't really have any reaction to the vaccinations. |
My vet wants to give Linus his rabies shot at 4 months. But he said that under no circumstances should he got that shot with anything else because it increases the probability of a reaction. So he'll get that very last, and he's only 2 lbs. |
Yup! Bailey got his at 4 months as well, along with his last set of puppy shots & did fine |
Shot Kodi got his rabies shot this week. He is 4 lbs and 4 months old. He did fine. |
I have to say from the outset that I am anti-vaccines and I know a lot of yorkie breeders in California at least who do not even give the rabies even though it's the law. I would never recommend violating the law and all of mine have had the rabies, but I would put it off until the last possible moment and if you live somewhere where it is not required I would not do it. There is a lot of evidence to suggest that we are over vacinating our pets and that these vaccines can lead to a lot of health issues from allergies to things as serious as hydrencephalitus and cancer. I have been meeting with a homeopathic vet who also practices western veterinary medicine. These are all personal decisions we have to make for our pets once we have satified ourselves with our research. Every case is slightly different depending on where you live, the size of your dog and the risks in your dog's lifestyle. |
Bella had her rabies at 3 1/2 mons old, she was not herself for about 24 hrs and ws not happy but after that she was fine. Today she got her 2nd 1/2 of Lyme, my vet does it in 2 shots as she said it was too strong for her. This time she gave her a benadryl shot with the Lyme and Bella seems to be doing better then last time. |
