Opinions NEEDED!! I know yorkies are hypo-allergenic but I also know some people who are allergic to hypo-allergenic dogs. My bf has allergies to DOGS but has never shown any signs of allergy's to my yorkie! But we are planning to move in together this summer and there are concerns from his parents that he will be allergic. He has slept over my house a few times and spends a lot of time here but do you think it could be diferent if he's living with her full time? Also is there a way to do an allergy test on my specific dog. Because if we have him do a regular allergy test he may come back positive to dogs but what about yorkies?? Thank you for all your advice in advance. Im so worried right now cuz I wouldnt be able to give either of them up and hope we could live together normally. |
My ex was alergic to hypo-dogs (as well as any other dogs) and had no problem with my poodle, or silky coated yorkies. for some reason he only reacted to yorkies with the cottony coats. hope i helped :) |
I dont know how we can check this before they live together though and if he is can he just take claritin? |
Hey there. When my son was three years old and my oldest was five years old my parents got them a Golden Retriever. Nick had severe allergies to him. We did our homework and We got our first Yorkie. He's ten now and he has a cotton coat. Nick was fine with him. We now have five (Yes five) and no allergies at all to any of them. Nick is also severely allergic to cats. I hope this helps in easing your BF's parent's concerns. On that note though, the only dog truly hyper allergetic is a Poodle. This is what I've been told at least. Best of luck. Elaine |
Thanks that makes me feel A LITTLE better but i'm still really nervous. Anyone else have any experience with this? |
I am extremely allergic to cats, and I'm allergic to dust, pollen, etc. I'm not really allergic to dogs, just that when there's a lot of hair or they shed a lot, I get allergy symptoms. That being said, I am not allergic to hypoallergenic dogs...I have a maltese and a yorkie and I have absolutely no problems at all. I think that if your boyfriend has stayed the night and has spent a lot of time in your home and hasn't had any symptoms, living with you and your yorkie won't make it a problem. But you never know. I hope he's not allergic to your dog because that could make for a very miserable time for him. It wouldn't be good for his health. |
Is there a way to do an allergy test on my specific dog...like with a blood test maybe rather than the way they normally do allergy tests with the little prickly needles (ew).Maybe they could test it with her hair?? Does this sound crazy? Its just my imagination. |
My daughter is allergic to dog saliva. Doggie breath. She has asthma. She cannot be around the Yorkies & was allergic to our Maltese, Jack, and our friend's poodle also. I am allergic to "dogs" but not to "hypo-allergenic" dogs. I am allergic to dog and cat dander. I can't be around cats or dogs that shed like St Bernards, Collie's, Golden's (the dogs that were always around the house when I was little) It depends what your allergy is. To some people there is not such thing as a "hypo-allergenic" animal. |
