How do you brush your Yorkie's teeth? I know I should be doing this to help with the plaque buildup and I'm not, can some of you tell me what you use to brush their teeth. The M&M's aren't too excited about me sticking anything in their mouth that isn't a treat! |
I use Petzlife spray and gel. They don't like the spray too much but I use it anyway. I use a baby toothbrush and brush Max's and Abbie's teeth with the gel. It took a while for them to get used to having a toothbrush in their mouths but they tolerate it now. They each have their own small Dora the Explorer toothbrushe :D I read that you can use your finger to put the gel on their teeth or even if they lick it, it's supposed to work, too, just not as well as if you were brushing their teeth. |
I use one of those finger brushes and poultry flavored doggie toothpaste from PetSmart. Sukoshi loves the flavor of the toothpaste, so the only hassle is actually getting it to the teeth before her tongue has licked it off the brush. I brush her teeth once a week before her bath, and I typically just kneel on the ground with her between my legs. Then, I can lean over her (so she can't get away) and hold up her gums (to expose the teeth) with one hand, while I brush the teeth with the finger brush that's on the other hand. Her tongue is always going the whole time, so I just work around it as best I can. And I always pay the little extra to have her teeth brushed at the groomers (she goes once every couple months) since I figure they'll probably do a better job than I do. |
At what age do you start brushing their teeth?? My baby is 7 months old do i start now!! right now he has a spearmint flavored rope that i got from pet smart that is suppose to keep his breath smelling good..(which it does!!!:)) and help to not build up tooth tarter..he loves it and chews on it all the time..is this just as good??? |
I bought one of those small fingertip toothbrushes for dogs so I just put it on my finger and brush Jake's teeth. He doesn't seem to mind that. He will bite down a little on it, but that's ok. |

What about buildup? Those of you brushing regularly, are you getting plaque buildup still, or is the brushing keeping it off their teeth? |
we brush EVERY night... it's a fight... i put Layla on her back and push up her gums and go to town until she squirms away.. .i turn her over again and start again .. we don't have tartar build up... for the 2 weeks i was busy studying for exams i didn't get to her every day and now i've noticed.. we have to work extra hard to get the plaque off that accumulated |

I know I should brush more often.. but I don't:( I brush Kayah every week when/while she's getting her weekly bath. I use the beef flavored toothpaste from Target along with a brush we got at Petsmart when I had them brush her teeth. Once I am done with her bath right before I dry her.. I spray Petzlife as directed.. She squirms while I brush her teeth.. but for the most part.. it's not bad It's the Spray she doesn't like |

do you brush your dog's teeth? My dogs hated getting their teeth brushed, so I quit doing it. Now I have started to do it every night. I got some poultry flavored toothpaste from the vet's. I put it on the three sided brush and they chew the heck out of it , and their teeth get brushed that way! |
I use a finger brush. I bought two other styles and they hated it . They tolerate the finger brush better . I got 2 of them at PetSmart for cheap. Genie Cookie Lola Angel |
I use the PETZLIFE spray on my little (5 lbs. each )furbabies teeth. They don't seem to mind, it keeps down the plaque build up and freshens their breath, without struggles...........They also have their own Sesame St. tooth brushes, hee hee hee.......They chew on the Spearment Ropes that help also. |
I dont....and if I am allowed...VERY carefully, Chelsea snaps at our fingers. Last Vet check up, he said her TOOFIES were ok, so works for us! Hugs! |
