Excessive Licking My baby Spikey licks himself excessively. He'll lick his paws, thighs, underarms and body to the point where he's completely wet in the area. The 30 mins or so he'll throw up some bile from all that licking. :( Is this normal? I checked with the vet and they did a skin test so he doesn't have any infections or parasites. Vet says it might be skin allergies so he's been on a special dry food diet which contains no food allergens. That doesn't seem to be working. :( Every once in a while I'll catch him vigorously licking so I'll put some Bitter Apple on that spot to deter him from licking it. He'll run to his bed and sit there looking all depressed. Wondering if this happened to any of your furbabies? |
It does sound like an allergy. What food are you feeding? Do you use Fabric Softener. I only buy the Sensitive Brand Laundry Detergent (No Dyes and No Perfumes and I don't use Fabric Softemer anymore). You might need to do that too ;) |
Vet was trying to find out what type of allergy he has. He was on Prescription Science Diet but that didn't help. I put him on NUTRO Natural Choice for Sensitive Stomachs and he seems a little bit better but still licking. I'll give the fabric softener a try. Thanks! |
You should probably go with a food that is grain free. Also treats should be grain free too! Wellness has a few varieties for allergies: http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com/well...ons_index.html |
Ellie is licking a lot too! she does have allergies so switching food is key - however 2 things I have learned from her derm doc: 1. you should change their food every 8-10 months (yikes, i hated hearing that since she is so fickle) 2. it takes about 12 weeks for their little bodies to adjust (and any allergies to set in) to the new food not sure if this helps at all, but def a discussion to have w/your vet!! |
Also, I found this info on yt http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/Knowle...&cl ick=73117 |
The link above doesn't work. :( |
Sukoshi doesn't lick like that so I'm not any help to you. I agree with some of these other replies though that it sounds like allergies. Good luck! |
It does sound like allergies...hope you find a cure! |
