oh my goodness he is tiny!!!!! |
I paid more for Cali as the breeder said she would be 3lbs. She ended up a little over 5. She has been a sickly dog. I didn't really care about the size I just wanted one to be 5 lbs or less. When I was looking for a second Yorkie I decided fr several reasons to get an adult. I wanted a clean health history and not to go through the spaying and puppy phase. So I got Pixie at 13 months and knew what I saw was what I got. She is 3 lbs and knock on wood healthy. That is the only way to gurantee size. |

Sorry to hear that you were taken advantage of. It always saddens me when I hear of breeders jacking up prices and calling their dogs "teacups" in order to get more money.:( Your baby is still quite small even at 5 pounds. I actually think that is a nice size, still really small but not too terribly fragile. I wish you and your baby the best of luck! |
I'm sorry you paid extra for a smaller dog. This is something we all have to be aware of and please spread around the name of the breeder or store you got your little baby from! People should know that this is not a reputable place to buy a dog from. In the end all that really matters is that your dog is healthy. I was told exactly the same thing when I bought Max, and when he weighed in at 5.5 pounds at 6 months, I also realized that he was going to be well over the 4 pounds they told me he would be. I adore him, could care less, and am just grateful that he's healthy. He's a year old now and weighs in at about 7.5 pounds, which is a bit over the standard, but he's a sturdy little guy and I like that. Welcome to YT! We need pictures. |
When I purchased my boy, I saw his parents (mom 4 lbs, dad 2.75 lbs) and I was told Teddy would be 4 to 5 lbs. Well he is almost 8 months old and at his last vet visit about a month ago, he weighed in at 7lb 4 oz. I know how you feel because I felt "taken" but I would not trade Teddy for 100 four pounders. I just feel there is more of him to love. |

My breeder told me Conner would be 4 - 5 pounds. I really did not want anything under 5 pounds. When Conner arrived at 10 weeks, I took him to the vet, and he said conner would be about 5 pounds. Now he is 9 pounds!! My vet says he is all muscle (I tell everyone he is large boned). We are glad he is a little bigger than average because we look at him and say he is tiny. I can't imagine how small a 5 pounder would be! |
When I got Wyatt I was told he would be 3-4 lbs...well he is 3 lbs but guess what people have told me that he is not a real yorkie cause real yorkies are 1-2 lbs    are they crazy..Wyatt is more of a yorkie than any other....now that goes to show you that size doesnt matter, people still say stupid things....but i was scared at first to have a smaller yorkie...cause there are a lot of health risks to take with the smaller ones...but I watched his every step till i was secure with him being alone...now he is a macho man and jumps and dives off of everything  (yes it scares me) but he is strong for a little guy....and everyone is right breeders that tell you the pup is a teacup...are crazy for the big money...thats why i talked my breeder down and made her lower her price with the power of knowledge...use it...it goes very far in life  |
I think advertising a "teacup" is just another scam so that some of the people who purposely try to breed the smaller dogs can charge more money. There is no guarantee what size your yorkie might end up. You have a right to be mad that you paid extra money, but at least you have a healthy puppy and that's what matters most.:) |
2 Attachment(s) Mine is just the opposite. The breeder I got Sophie from said she thought she would get between 5-6 lbs, "yes..." exactly want I was looking for. However, Sophie will probably end up no more than 2.5 (vet says IF she hits a growing spirt). Either way I love my Sophie and understood from the beginning the breeder simply guesses and can not garauntee her size. Below is Sophie 1.5 lbs and Rusty 7.8 lbs Good luck with your baby and we would SURE love to see pics of your precious little one :welcome4: to YT Angi |
You are certainly not alone in this tale of paying for something you didn't get! And that always makes me sad for people, because I can imagine how frustrating it is. BUT, you have your wonderful pup, and as time passes you will realize that she has brought you every penny's worth of joy, and more!! :) Welcome to YT! |

Think of it this way -- maybe the dog is not as small as you "paid for." But maybe you got a better temperment and disposition than you could have anticipated. A dog's worth really cannot be measured with rulers and scales alone. |
I'm glad that your baby is loved, no matter what the size! Our Tucker is 14 pounds! Of course, about 2 of those are from too many Snausages! But his mom was 6 pounds, his dad was 4 pounds and the litter ended up with puppies from 4 lbs to 14 lbs full grown. There are no guarantees, and anyone who 'promise' differently is lying. |
