pet insurance? Do you think its worth it? Who has it? I personally never got insurance for my dog, but evrey time we step foot in the vets office, its more than 200$. Do u think insurance is worth it for a new puppy? what does ur bill come up to evrey time u leave the vets? |
I can't decide if it's worth it.... You must go to a very expensive vet because I used to spend over $100 each visit and I realized...this vet is DEFINITELY overpriced. The neuter was going to be $450....and right down the road...it is only $250 It doesn't mean the vets are any better or worse...the overhead of their location and building must be more expensive so they have to "up" the price... The insurance only works on CERTAIN things....hardly never on surgeries or emergencies....it also depends on what kind of insurance I don't have it....not sure if I will ever get it either :) |
Im not sure if it is worth it either. My pug has mast cell tumors and when I looked up to see if the ins. would of covered any of the surgery, it wouldnt of. They only would reimburse me $15 for a dental cleaning ($225 would be my bill) Interesting to see if anyone feels it is worth it.:( |
hmm...wel i have insurance, and i am in the middle of filing a claim. i will let you know if they reimburse me!! i hope they do bc i pay 20 a month!! |
I was wondering the same thing. I was considering Veterinary Pet Insurance at www.petinsurance.com. They cover 90% of a lot of stuff (diagnostic tests, office visits, prescriptions, x-rays, treatments, lab fees, hospitalization, surgeries and vaccinations). It costs $307 a year for the most extensive coverage and $113 for the lowest. Sounds like it would be worth it to me! |
vpi is what i have.....we will shortly see how good they are!! lol |
hi i have pixie insured and she is a member of the missings pets beareau:animal-pa |
I just recently signed Sadie and Lillie up for pet insurance. I pay around $55.00 a month for both of them. I got the extra coverage to help with the cost of shots and visits. I am bringing them in next week for there heartworm checks and meds...I know it doesnt' cover alot..I am going to be paying alot to have them spayed also..and it only covers 65.00 of the spay...per dog...however....as they get older and (hopefully not) would need surgeries, this is where is comes in handy...it does cover alot of different illnesses, accidents and conditions. If you wait until they are older or have a condition then your premium would be ALOT more than what it would be now. |

I know there's been several threads and posts about "To Get or Not To Get Pet Insurance" I would always have insurance for my babies. It's so with it incase of an unfortunate accident or serious illness. VPI (veterinary pet insurance) is my choice since I can go to any vet, in any city or state. I got a check in the amount of $2,195.71 from Veterinay Pet Insurance. The claim I submitted was for $2,855.55. This was the last claim I filed for the emergency care Jewel received. The bill was big but we would have paid ten times that amount if Jewel would have survived. For anyone with any doubts GET IT! You never know what type of emergency you and your baby may face. In the year Jewel was sick, we paid close to $10,000 to her various doctors and VPI reimbursed us for about 60% of it. We were fortunate we had her & Jazzie covered. It gave us the financial means to keep her with us a little longer and not have to put her to sleep because we couldn't afford her treatments. My all your babies be Safe, Warm & Loved. |
I highly, highly, highly recommend insurance. Especially if your little one is little (fragile) or prone to illness. We're also on VPI - we're on the expensive plan that's $307 or something a year and covers shots, checkups, etc. Pixie is very fragile and has had many, many problems. We didn't realize how fragile until she had her arm broken... in 4 places. And had to have reconstructive surgery. That incident cost us a fortune. She kept having respiratory infections, too - until we found it it's a collapsing trachea. And she's got luxating patellas. She's a very unhealthy dog, if you can't tell. We decided to go ahead with insurance, even if it's $307 a year, it's bound to save us at least that, with her medical costs. Her collapsing trachea and meds for that are not covered, but she is otherwise covered. With her scheduled appointments, we're expecting back at least $250 as it is for this year, and that's NOT including the next 11 months with checkups and shots and emergencies and illnesses.... I think it's proving to be worth it. And I highly recommend it. P.S. - she's been having problems just tonight that we've been watching to see if we need to take her to the ER. And we know we can, because she's covered unless it turns out to be tracheal. |
My dog is older, hes about 2. but its really getting ridiculous, im thinking of changing vets. |

Which insurance did you get for her? VPI denied Sadie because of her intestinal issues. Said it was a preexisting condition and that if she didn't have any issues within six months, they would consider looking at it again, but she probably will still not be eligible. |
Jazzie had terrible allergies and VPI denied coverage for any dermatitis. But! I still have her covered. like most insurance, preexisting conditions or heridetatry conditions are not covered. |
i got lucky when i got bella insurance bc she was so young that the only thing she had was kennel cough, which they deemed a pre condition, but when i send in my claim i can dispute it, which i am. |
