The breeder I bought my little Teddy from told me to NEVER put a collar on a yorkie as their necks (and trachea) are too tender and could be injured. Teddy is no little boy, he is 7 lbs. The vet verified this information. I purchased a halter - and it is cute with little designs on it - at Petco for $10.00. I love it. It is easy to put on, in fact Teddy does not mind it being put on and he will lift his one leg for it to go through the hole. It is lightweight and of course because he is a little boy, it is blue. Would highly recommend it. |

How could just "putting" on a collar be potentially harmful if they are not being walked by using their collars? i wrote that i use a harness to walk her and not by her leash.. princess wears her collar 24/7 (cept during her bath) with her ID on it and then a harness only when she's going on a walk. |
(on the secondary topic) collars are fine on yorkies for ID as long as you don't walk them by hooking the leash to it. only leash to a harness. there are also break away collars (if you can't find it in the dog section, look in the cat collars) in case they get snagged - it will break off and not squeeze their neck. I don't use this type though because his ID tags would be rather pointless if he got lost, he'd snag on something and lose them. |
4 Attachment(s) Hi, My Trixie always wears her collar as well. I would never want the chance of her getting out and not having one on. It has come to use twice in the last year.!! I am now offering some great smaller 3/4" collars for our little ones. (Trix is 3 lbs). Fur, bling bling and fashion ones. Super low costs too. 15%-20% less than others offering the same collars. I also have super low cost name tags and embroidered collars too You can check out them here... http://www.puppywraps.com/CollarsLeads.html Let me know if I can help you with anything! -KimberlyAnn |
