My Puppy Doesn't Want to Play??????? hey guys, i purchased my puppy about two weeks ago i took him to the vet got him checked and everything seemed normal except, my puppy doesnt want to play he rarely comes out his crate doesnt like like to run around ( well only for like 10 min a day) and i dont think thats really the characteristics of a yorkie, can anyone help me out here? |
Did your vet run blood tests? If not, I would suggest that. How is his appetite? If its good, perhaps he is just laid back. Has he been wormed? |
How old is your puppy ? Young puppies need to sleep alot . Some of mine are like yours . |
Yorkies are famous for 'separation anxiety'. Just spend lots of cuddle time with your baby so whatever bonds he now has will be broken and he'll bond with you instead. I had a furbaby like that, but you wouldn't know it now!! She acts like she owns the place. And I guess she does...sheesh:p Sometimes it just takes a little time. You might want to try Nutra-Cal also. It's a great diet supplement for these little guys. It has lots of vitamins and calcium for his little bones. And always see your vet if you have ANY concerns. Better safe than sorry. |
Welcome to YT and congrats on your new baby! If you have any doubt, call your vet, and explain to him what your pups behaviour is. Its hard to judge from a distance, do you have any pics of your baby? |
My puppy did this as well for the first few days prolly about a week. Then she got over it and now its no peace at all. Anyways if she doesnt come arround after a while id take her to the vet again. |
:welcome4: Welcome to Yorkie talk. New puppies do come with lots of questions but you sure came to the right place. :scratchhe If your puppy is still quite young. 8-10 weeks he will need lots of sleep. also he is in a new place so give him time to learn about his new big world. Good luck, Dawn |
If all is well healthwise, just hold her and let her get to know you. When you leave blankets and toys in the crate, rub them on you before putting in crate to let her get used to your scent. My furboy is 14 months old and we still rub the blankets on us before putting in crate. |
could it have anything to do with this thread... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...37#post1094037 ??? just wondering if everything has worked out or if there was any follow up done... yes, they do sleep A LOT when they are babies. Maggie is 7 months old now and still sleeps all day. but in the evenings, boy oh boy...she is a rowdy one :) If there are no more health issues, you should just cuddle with him as much as possible. when I first got maggie, if I saw that she was sleeping, I would put her on my chest or in my lap and have her sleep on me. any time I was laying down, I had her lay with me. It really helped her to open up, bond, and feel loved and comfortable in her new home. She had pretty bad separating anxiety when I first brought her home. We almost lost her the 2nd day because she wouldn't eat...she was having a hard time transitioning. even though I smothered her in love and totally pampered her. But she is 100% better, 100% comfortable and she KNOWS that she is loved to pieces here. i hope things get better for you.... please keep us posted... |
Welcome to YT! There's a lot of great suggestions that have been posted. Let us know how things are going, and how he progresses; I hope all is well with your little baby. Good Luck! :welcome4: |

How much does he weigh? Can you feel his spine when you run your hand down his back? If so, he is too thin. I think another trip to the vet is in order just to make sure he is okay. Try mixing a little watered down Nutrical over her dry food and see if that perks him up any. keep us posted, please. |
I\'m just curious to know if you took him in to see if the worms were treated successfully to make sure they are gone??? |
