all knoted up! Anyone ever had the problem i have right now? That is my youngest yorkie has thick sort of curley hair and it has a layer of knots and matts under it against the skin. Any suggestions or ideas or should i just shave him and start a new coat? If i shave him how long before it grows long again? thanks |
Jake's hair was matting easy for awhile, but since he has lost most of his puppy hair now, his hair no longer mats at all. If you can brush the mats out, that's what I would do. If not, try to cut them out and try some detangler and see if that works. That's better than shaving him (I think) and once the puppy hair grows out, his new hair might be fine. I bathe Jake once a week (sometimes twice) and use the detangler, and his hair comes out nice and silky and shiny. Some detanglers can be used on dry hair in-between baths, and brushing everyday helps to avoid the mats. Good luck! |
i have just gone thru that with my baby!! I thought i was doing good til a visit to see his breeder told me different. It was bad and although we tried to comb them out ..Nathan was having a fit so we made a joint decesion to shave him...except his face so he looked like a lion for about a month but it was still cold here so i just camoflauged it with his clothes when we went out !! :) Breeder said it was a combination of his baby hair and adult hair coming in...I comb and brush him religiously every day going forward and back and his coat is coming in fine now... Hope this helps !!! |
1 Attachment(s) same thing happened here, we just shaved him. here's a funny pic of how he looked right after. to get to his current length (about 1-2" all over) it took about 2-3 months i think. |
When Scampers was younger and going from his puppy hair to adult hair, he use to matt like crazy!! Now his adult hair is mostly grown out and he hardly ever matts and his hair is now so easy to take care of. But it was a pain to deal with when he had that puppy hair. If your boy is matted up too bad, I would just shave him or even cutting his hair a little will help. |
You could get a dematting comb to take the matts out. They have blades on them so you will lose some hair but it kept me from having to get my girl shaved once |
when lexi was little she had the same problem..instead of trying to comb the matts out and hurting her, because it did, i shaved her.. in a few months, it was back looking nice... the summer is coming, so if you deceide to shave, do it now. |
