Getting a second one..... We are getting a second yorkie (female) at the end of May. We have a female, Princess, who is 2 years old. How long do you think it will take them to like eachother? And, how do we introduce them to eachother? Help:confused: |
aww your so lucky. i want another one soo badly. someone will be able to help soon i am sure. i am interested to see what people say so i can learn when i eventually get another! hehe...congrats!!! |
My Vixxen was 3 yrs old when I got Truffles at 12 weeks old. She pretty much didn't want much to do with her for about a month!! I was gettin worried! Vixxen sleeps with us so for the first few weeks I had Truffles sleep in her own pen in the kitchen, so Vixxen still felt "special" and I didn't want her to feel I was pushing Truffles on her. They are fine now! They both sleep with us now! Vixxen never really cuddles Truffles, but they play and travel together ect. Vixxen will put her in her place if she's had enough puppy play! Truffles does need a puppy to play with though  It never ends.....hahahahah |
Maddie was about 2 1/2 when I got Libby about a month ago. Maddie liked her at first, till she realized Libby wasn't just here for a play date. Then Maddie acted quite ticked off...but it was funny because she was watching Libby, but didn't want us to know she was interested. I'd say they started playing after about a week. It's more and more each day that they play and enjoy each other. I've heard it can take 2 months for the older one to finally accept the younger, so I feel very lucky that things have gone so smoothly. Good luck and best wishes on your new yorkie!!! |
The main thing is that they each continue to get separate, individual attention from you, in addition to the attention they get together. Besides that, just encourage freindliness between the two however you think is best. |
It's been three weeks since we brought Shelby Rose (at 8 weeks old) home to meet her brother Toby who's a year old. We're still going through that bonding stage here. At least now he will be in the same room with her and they are playing more and more each day. She's even started going up to snuggle with him after he's gone to sleep and he's not sliding her away from him like he use to. lol She's very determined that Toby is hers. :^) |
Congratulations!!! On your new addition....hope the transition goes well...you can never predict how these things will go ....:) I just brought home a playmate for my Jack...Jack was 2 & the new one, Jake is 4 months....all it took was 24 hours....& they get a long great  ...I thought a female would work better, I was worried about a dominance issue but it worked out anyway..... |
When I brought Pixie home in January she was 13 months old and much more energetic than Cali who was 18 months. Cali was pretty put out in the beginning but after 6 weeks or so they sleep together and play/fight. |
Congrat on your up coming arrival. Did you pick out a name? It took 8 weeks to the day for Dakota to even go near Autumn. Now they have been playing and chasing each other. It is really sweet! Good Luck! |
Thank you for the responses! We are going to name her Peanut. My husband is sooooo protective of Princess--he is so afraid that Princess is going to feel left out and will not like the new one. I keep telling him that in time they will be so close they will forget us! When we bring her home, should we have her outside and have Princess come outside to see her? Then she will think it was her idea to bring Peanut into the home? Am I crazy?:p |
I have 2 dogs also but 1 is a 4 yr old Shih Tzu (Jazzy) and the other is a 10 month old Yorkie (Mickey). When I first got Mickey at 10 weeks, Jazzy was 3 yrs old. I got Mickey so Jazzy could have a sister and playmate. Well for the first 2 weeks I thought I had made a huge mistake. Jazzy was soooooooooooo upset that she constantly had salvia running from her mouth and was very aggitated and extremely nervous. I made sure that I paid Jazzy tons of extra attention and made sure she knew she was still #1 dog, after alpha dog--me, of course. Also, Mickey slept in her cage at first, while Jazzy continued to sleep with me. In less than 2 weeks the 2 became best of friends. They now play together and just love each other, and we all sleep together. Mickey adolizes her big sister Jazzy. Whatever Jazzy does, Mickey wants to do. It is so funny because if Jazzy gets in trouble and is sitting and moping somewhere--Mickey goes and lies right next to her and will not come to anyone until Jazzy gets over her moping and will come also. It is so funny! Jazzy, on the other hand, does not show the same loyalty to Mickey when she does something bad, like tearing all the toilet paper off a brand new roll. Jazzy just sits there with this grin on her face like--I'm the good one! I swear they are just like kids! |
You are doing the right thing! Tucker was 16 months old and he is perpetual motion. That's why we decided to get another. Someone to play with him and be his buddy. I didn't want to go through the "puppy stage" again, so we found a 3 year old girl, Maddie. She was nervous when we first brought her home, but the two of them became great friends in just a couple of weeks. Tucker was never a cuddle baby, (too busy), but Maddie is and that has made Tucker more of a cuddler. They really love each other so much. Congrats on your new baby! |
