Yorkie doing what it was breed for
 

OMG. What a drama last nite, talk about seeing a yorkie in action.
I was sitting at my door last nite talking to a few neighbours as the weather has been great here. As we live in a sort of cul-da-sc with no roads near us, I always let my babies out the front with me. Well we were in deep conversation, and Boots was barking like mad. I turned round to see what she was barking at, to me she was barking at the wall. I give it a few more minutes and went down to see what was up as she was going bonkers, she was just a few steps away. OMG i nearly died. She had the biggest rat i have ever seen, pinned to the wall, i am still getting goosebumps thinking about this. The rat was actully squealing at her, and showing every tooth it had, it was like somthing outta a horror movie. Me and all my neighbours were shouting at Boots to come away because we were afriad of the rat attacking her. Boots had no fear what so ever, but we finally got her to come away, and the big fat rat run for its life. Boots wasnt to happy at this. At the end of the day that is what the yorkie was bred for, and if Boots was anything to go by, what a special little working dog this must of been, when they were used as working dogs.

Bravo Boots!! We tend to forget they are terriers but given the right circumstances nature takes over.

Honestly, it as simply unbelviable. Go Yorkies

You know, my friend has a pet 1 as well. Hes so clever and adorable (well almost lol). His name is Freddie, dont think i will bringing Boots round for a visit though. lol

Can we rent Boots? We had mice in our house all winter, and Eddie hardly noticed them. They were eating his food!

Ach I think we would insult Boots with a mouse. You can have Missy i think she would much prefer a mouse, as she never backed Boots up at all, she run right up to the bedroom.lol

Yorkies rule! I wish you had a video. I was a science teacher, so these things don't gross me out.

Good point. Boots would probably just laugh at our mice. But maybe he can help with our moose problem!

I have pet rats as well. Besides dogs, they are the second best pet, in my opinion. :D

But there's a big difference between our pets in our homes, and unwelcome, disease infested rodesnt visitors in our homes. :eek: ;)

I had a Yorkie who was 10 lbs and he actually cuaght a squirrell and killed it.

My husband heard Chip in the backyard going crazy and when he went to check out the situation, Chip had the squirrell in his mouth shaking it like mad and slaming in on the ground over and over. My husband was able to get Chip to release the squirrell which was alive at the time but not for long. I took Chip to the vet to be check out because he did get scratched around the nose which was bleeding a little. The vet came into the room three times looking for the dog invloved with a squirrell attack and I had to tell him the third time he had the right room. The vet said he was looking for a much larger dog in one of the rooms and thought his assisant made a mistake in which room the squirrell attacking dog was in!

We had this happen too but I got the little (well as big as Daisy) Squriell away fast enough so it was ok. but we had three dogs trying to KILL it:eek: Poor guy was stunded but crawled up the tree and still torments our dogs today. Daisy does her best but he has gotten faster LOL.

I had a similiar experience over the weekend but it was a baby bunny. My little 10 month old Yorkie found a rabbits nest with 4 babies. My Yorkie killed one before I could get to her, but I was able to save the other 3.
My Yorkie is the sweetest and most lovable and gentle little thing, so I was shocked. But it is just their instinct, it's what they were bred for--to kill rodents.
Now everytime she goes out in the backyard, she goes right to the old nest(the mother rabbit moved her babies to another nest outside of our yard). My Yorkie looks so disappointed to find it empty.

No kidding!! we had two mice this winter in our kitchen eating our bread, one we caught in the hallway just after Tobey walked right by him!

We had a little mouse in our back yard and the girls would not leave it alone they were trying to dig it out of its little burrow

Go Boots! That reminds me of Izzy a couple of weeks ago when Squirrel was on my grandmothers front yard. She complains how this squirrel keeps coming back begging for food. (her neighbor feeds it...why I dont know) So Izzy was outside and saw the squirrel, he barked like mad and chased it until it went up in the tree!! I told my grandmother, next time he comes back I will bring Izzy over to run him away.:p

I agree. I would have loved to see a video. i would have been grossed out, but still would have wanted to see. :D
BTW, your baby has the cutest little face:)

Hunting & Field Terriers
 

Yorkie's are definetely "Hunting Dogs", regardless of how much we pamper our Babies they are still "Terriers" or whether we have trained them to "Hunt" or not they do it Naturally. Artie has confronted; Cats, Racoons, Possums and even Skunks! I currently live next door to the "Dog Park", my 2 females go crazy over the; Squirrels, Rabbits, Birds, Frogs and snapping Turtles! They have no fear towards any Person or Creature it's very scary and nerve wrecking, I used to get nervous but now I trust their better judgement and common sense.
Alot of Yorkie Owners don't know what their "Yorkie" is capable of? My Neighbor that has 2 sisters from the same Litter that are only 5 lbs., waited until they were 2 yrs. old before their feet ever touched the ground to go for a "Walk on a Leash"? And I had to coax/talk and convince her to do that! Was that "Ignorance" or "Laziness" or even "Fear"? She would die if she saw them chase or run after something? Go Yorkie's!:aimeeyork

I totaly agree. Yorkies may be small, but there is alot of spunk, intelligence and attitude, in their little bodies.
I am amazed that your neighbor could contain her Yorkies from waklking/running for 2 years. My baby is soooo full of energy, always on to the next adventure, and is CONSTANTLY on security guard--that I could not keep her little feet off the ground, if I tried. Which I would never attempt to do. She is a total riot to watch. I LOVE her attitude!
It is a shame that your neighbor is limiting her Yorkies by babying them too much. Don't get me wrong, ALL my furbabies are totally spoiled and pampered, BUT they all have ther own personalities, likes, fears, etc., and are treated as individual pets. How anyone could want to have a dog that never touched the ground, and that I had to carry everywhere---is beyond me!!! But, to each their own.

Yorkies sure are big for their size! I worked with a woman who had a Rottweiler and he found a nest of baby bunnies in his yard. He guarded the nest like they were his own babies until they grew up and left. He would lay next to the nest and the mother would come and go. She seemed to know that he was only protecting them. Smart mama bunny to make her nest where a big boy would protect it!

That would have FREAKED ME OUT. How big was the rat ?? I know they've got HUGE teeth and thank God he wasn't bit. Sounds like the rat was the one in danger but I'm stilll glad they didn't tussle.

I've got the Willies now :p :p (must have been the squealing part)

I would be afraid of rabies with wild animals.
