Will this make him stop? As some of you may know, I just got Rascal friday. He is marking my couches. We are going to get him neutered after my son's birthday. Just wanting to know if this will stop when we get him fixed. TIA |
It might or may not. It depends on each dog. I am no expert though as I have a neutered male can and spayed female. Bobbi is not yet neutered. Bobbi does not mark though. He lifts his leg outside in the yard but only there (thank goodness). I have seen neutered dogs that mark though. So, I believe it depends on your lil guy. Praying it does work for you though!! |
Are belly bands to keep the little guys from marking? |
Yes ,belly bands can be used for marking. How old is your dog that is marking the couch? My Cookie started marking and we got him neutered when he was about 1 yr old. At first the change was not major. He did get a whole lot better and does not mark furniture, on rare ocasions I have caught him marking a wall . He's 3 yrs old. There was a change for him but I have known other dogs that are neutered and still mark. Cookie got so bad he started jumping on my chair, jumped on my desk and would mark my printer! One day I found all the sheets wet with pee! ugh!!! He also marked our dining table. Yes he jumped from the chair to table and peed right on top center of the table! He has NEVER done that again since he was neutered. He's also stopped humping things lol. That didn't bother me because he never made a mess when he humped toys lol Genie Cookie Lola Angel |
My little one in 9months. He is starting now to mark. I don't want to "fix" him. How do the belly bands work. Do I just remove them when I want him to go potty? What do you do when your not home? This is starting to get bad. Please Help:confused: Quote:

I sympathize with you. I have a male that is a year and a half and he marks everything! I finally had to start putting the belly bands on him all the time he is in the house. He marks my garbage can, furniture, door frames, etc. His worst thing though was shoes! Once he peed on my sons backpack! Anything that carries in a new scent. So, the belly bands came out before I lost my mind. I know this is a natural instict, and some people say that when they get neutered it gets better but others say it does not. I think it depends on how long they actually wait before having it done. You know once the dog has been going in the house for so long it becomes a learned behavior and you would probably have to start housetraining all over again. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Oh and just as a thought, my son's male never did mark even before he was neutered, but he had a testicle that did not descend? It's possible that had something to do with it?? |
I just had Teddy neutered. He was 7 months. And.. he has been marking since he turned 3 months (right on his birthday he decided to mark.. and bark!) And after we neutered him, he STILL marks. Maybe it depends on the dog, though. But I've just learned to live with it. My parents don't mind.. seeing as all of our male dogs mark. But he rarely, if ever, marks on furniture.. just walls.. (like thats any better.) But good luck to you.. Ashley |
I've heard that the younger you can get them safely neutered, the better, because once he has begun to mark, it is difficult to get him to stop even after neutering. |

The best possible thing to do is neuter him, I think...Is there a specific reason you don't want to? Because it usually is easier and better to have a neutered yorkie than an intact one, unless you are a breeder. I am deciding whether to neuter my pup. Should I? And why? Please, I need a little push to do this. |
Bonnie, is Rascal your adorable maltese? :) All I know that with Tiger, nothing has changed. He continue to mark. :) |
my male markes everything. had someone tell me and a friend of mine that also has a male to use disposable diapers. wonderful- the first time my friends husband (he was home on R&R from Iraq) saw my boy hike his leg on their fireplace- he did the chair vault- before he realized that he had a diaper on. the look on his face was priceless.:D |
my little fella still thinks he needs to squat so he uses the piddle pads. He follows his sister who is a Shih Tzu...So shhhh don't anyone tell him hez a guy, pleeeeeeze. |
My little guys only marks outside, and unfortunatly at other peoples houses! I made him a belly band for the next time we go out to someones house! Plus I've never heard of a dog that ever stopped marking after being fixed! I know if you have them fixed prior to puberty that they are less likely to ever start marking! Good luck with your baby! :( |
