HI everyone Hi everyone new to the board. I have a few question i want to get a yorkie for my daughter, are they good dogs to have around kids? |
My little Rylee has been great with my boys. Make sure to always watch while they're playing. Rylee tends to always be right up under their feet. Sometimes they all get time outs for getting too wild. But, Yorkie temperaments are great with kids. Rylee is just another kid in my house. |
How old is you daughter? I waited until my daughter was a little older (12 to be exact) to get a Yorkie because they are so small and fragile..and, with kids, accidents definitely happen! As for as Rocky and Lyric...they are the best of friends! |
I suggest getting a bigger yorkie (not a tea cup) if you are having it around a young child. My yorkie is 10 pounds at just 6 months. He will probably be 13 pounds full grown. Less accidents with a bigger one around children! Good luck. |
Hello and welcome to Yorkie Talk. Depending on the age of your daughter id say a larger Yorkie would probably be best. The real tiny one's are so very delicate. Yorkie's are like a small child themselves and need almost constant supervision, so be prepared for that too. ;) Also Yorkie's thrive on constant attention and love love love...And don't care for being alone too much. Keep us posted on what you decide to do. :aimeeyork |
my daughter is going to be 4 is there a big difference between the toy version and the big version yorkie? thanks |
There is a lot of difference. Baby is 5 lbs and is still very fragile. She is scared to death of children and runs away from them and hides until they are gone. A bigger yorkie will be more sturdy and able to handle the rough and tough of a child. Good luck with whatever you do. Keep us posted! |
I think a large Yorkie will be fine. I have 2 kids 12 yr old son and 4 yr old daugther. Gucci is 5 lbs. They play together but im always watching them. I always make sure My daugther doesnt play rough with Gucci. So far everything is being fine. Gucci loves Evelyn(my daugther). Gucci follows her when she wants to play. Good luck on your decision. |
