First Trip to the Vet for Red Puppy Litter Oh...the day I dread is here. I just got back from getting my litter of 4 checked by the vet, dew claws removed and tails docked. All I can say is be VERY thankful that is all done by the time you get your new little Yorkie puppy. It is so stressful and the poor little babies cry the whole way home. The vet gave them all a clean bill of health and will see them in six weeks. I did want to say THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR ALL OF YOUR KIND WORDS ABOUT MY PRECIOUS NEW LITTER!!!!!! I'll post their one week old pictures next Monday! Julz |
i so happy everything when ok |
congratulations on the new litter. They're very pretty. I can't wait to see them grow up! |
Im glad the vet gave them all clean bill of health. Im looking forward to see pics. Congrats once again. :) |
Good! Bet you're glad thats over,, I always wondered how pups reacted to the claw removal and tails docked! Do they do any numbing or anything? |
I can't imagine!! You must have been so stressed!! I'm glad things went well & congrats on the new babies!! |
glad to hear your little ones got a good bill of health cant wait to see new pict they are so precious.. before you know it they will be ready for new homes :( they grow so fast. good luck with all the little cutties :aimeeyork . |
Photo of tails docked 2 days old Thanks you guys! No, there is no numbing. It honestly takes a while to calm down for all of us on this day! Here is a picture of them....poor little buggers do look cute though.... hold on, it said the file was too big...I'll go crop some off of the picture...be right back..... |
Great news about your puppies. Look forward in seeing pic's of them. |
Oh, how sad! How long did they cry for? I plan on breeding eventually and if my babies cried, I think I would too! Can't believe they can't give them a little shot of demerol or something. Am I just nuts??????????????????? |
They cried off and on for a couple of hours, but thank God they are all doing really really well this morning!!!!!!!!!! You mentioned you are thinking of breeding..have you done any research? I would suggest reading a lot of books and info on-line. There can be a lot of delivery disasters if you are not prepared to jump in and know what to do (ie dry breech birth, no puppy after a certain amount of time regardless of labor, how to do a shake down, etc.). You also need to put your female on puppy food for her pregnancy. I won't run on and on, but if I can help with anything, just let me know. JULZ |
It was tough hearing they cried for me too and I did wonder about how they did that but was kind of afraid to ask - I guess we should look at it like a baby teething - they probably don't remember it but I bet you will ! I'm glad they're all doing so well...I enjoyed seeing your baby pictures ! |
Julz, I for one am very grateful for all the hard work the breeders devote to the babies. Please don't think I'm stupid, but I thought Maggie was a lucky one and was born without dew claws. I called her breeder and she said that the tail and claws were done at 3 days old. Their first shots and worming is also done by the time they get to go home. I remember having my chow, dew claws removed. It was terrible. I felt so ashamed of putting him through that. Anyway, windy me----Thanks Again. |
We were told to dock tails on day 4, I stressed (even ran a poll here.) I do not find my vet very helpful, but they said worm on 2,4,6 weeks, bring back at 6 weeks for first shots. But for 5 pups, they give a great discount. It may be cheaper for 5 than for 1??? I sure would be interested to find how you would find a really good yorkie vet. I constantly second guess mine. We have several in the area, and I can't say I like any of them much. Of course, these guys do everything from small animals to horses, not much of a specialty. :( |
