Paws Chino eats his paws, or i guess chews on them. He does not have fleas. I have been putting bitter apple on them. Just wondering if anyone elses dog does this. |
My son's dogs do that too. They have had them to the vet who sent them to an allergist. They have allergies to the grass. They are both on allergy medication..shots and pills. They would chew their feet until they would bleed. In the winter they are a little better but in the summertime they have to be kept on meds all the time. |
One of my pugs had the same problem. He had allergies. The fresh cut grass and any type of fertilizer would bother it. |
(Hi patty, lol......) yes, my last Bearded Collie chewed 'em until they bled. My only Yorkie who does this is Casper - but not till they bleed - all you hear in bed is him chewing his paws and biting off his nails, as he doesn't like clippers, lol......I only ever have to clip his dew-claws as he does the rest himself ! Yes, I believe it is an allergy - to grass or to tar on the roads seemingly;) :animal-pa Debra x x x x |
my cocker does this but only on her front paws. i have no idea what is causing it, i have asked the vet and she said to just be sure and wipe her feet down when she comes in. she has never made them bleed but I do make her stop when I see her chewing them. I just say her name and she jumps up like "what...I didn't do anything?!?!?!?!" |
He is only doing the front paws as well. I think that it might be allergies to grass because it is usually rigth after we come in. I will take him to the vet soon. thanks. |
Paw chewing/licking is sometimes an indication of a food allergy.... What food are you feeding? Check the ingredient label and see if there's any wheat or corn, which are the most common allergens for dogs. |

Regardless of the cause, for a short term fix and to give him some immediate relief, try some Allercaine Spray for dogs. It will soothe his skin and stop the itching on contact. It also has an antiseptic to prevent infection. |

Look up demodectic mange and see if that sounds the what your dealing with. I think it involves the paws and the face. Just a suggestion, may not even be close. |
does anyone know how much it cost for the allgery shot or pills? |

Keep the paws clean after being outside. Wash with a warm wash cloth. At night a little Neosporin (sp?) ont he pads heals it up quick. |
