Separation Anxiety
 

How can you tell if they have separation anxiety? I leave Izzy home during the day while I am work. For a while I left him in my bedroom with the door open and I had a gate blocking the hallway from the rest of the house. Recently I started leaving him in the living room because he likes looking out of the window. I figured it would help him but the only thing is, he can see me when I leave and come home. (I park in front of the house) He was fine for a couple of days but yesterday, when I came home he pooped at the front door! Is this a sign? Maybe I should move him back in the room? I dont know. What do you think?

It's most important that you're consistent and don't give in to their cute little faces. Chances are, your little one will get used to whatever your arrangement you have. It's always tough for them when they're little. What type of behavior is she exhibiting that makes you think she has seperation anxiety? If all else fails, you could always get her a playmate. Seriously, I've heard of quite a few people getting two for company. I couldn't handle 2, but more power to those who can!!

I was told sometimes if you leave a radio or TV on that helps. It allows them to hear voices like so they dont think they are alone.

Karla My Roger has seperation anxiety, and I know I have to be insane, But I flat don't leave him, His first signs were when we left him in his room, it is a huge room for him anyhow 12x17 I also used a gate, when I came back after a few hours he had small scraps on the carpet in front of thegate, and then I tried a second time and left him 4 hours, and girl he flat ate thru the carpet and he was very slobbery at the mouth. I was sick to my stomach knowing he was upset. Tears your heart doesn't it. My suggested medication, I really didnt wnat to do that, I am very fortunate to be able to take him to work every day. I always leave the animal planet channel on for Gin-Gin. Then I get to thinking what if they do some emergency surgery on a dog---she may get traumatized and need therapy!!! (Haha)

seriously, we have the keeping room, kitchen, breakfast nook gated off so she can have a pretty large area to roam and it is all wooden floors..

I just recently started back to work after being off for 6 mos., and I think little Jake is going through separation anxiety, though he is getting better all the time. He has been with me practically 24/7 since I got him, so he's really attached to me. He got used to me being home with him all the time, and I had lots of time to play with him. Now I go to work in the evening, and he's not liking it! He usually starts acting "clingy" around 3:00 in the afternoon when I'm starting to get ready. He will follow me everywhere, which he normally does anyway, but he will whine a little bit and want to be picked up. I pick him up and cuddle him for a few minutes, then he's okay. I continue to get ready for work, but I talk to him alot while getting ready. He cries after I leave...and he's not even being left alone. My son is with him until my hubby gets home from work.

When I come home at 1:00a.m., Jake flies to the door to greet me and is SO excited!! Then, of course, it's playtime. He thinks if I'm gone 9 hours, then I have to make up the lost play time. I play with him for a little bit, but then it's bedtime. He's fine with that, as long as he can sleep all snuggled up with mommy.:)

Thats it I tell ya!! What about trying to find an elderly person that can watch him while your working, alot of times they do it for the company alone! Justa thought!

Oh, I don't need anyone to watch him since my husband is home in the eves. He works days and I work eves. My son is home for that hour or so between the time when I leave and hubby gets home. But, Jake is just used to having me home all the time lol

He poops on the floor right at the door, he tore up my mail I left on the table one day. When Im leaving in the morning he runs right to the door like he wants to leave,then he will whine. I try to give him treats to distract him, but since he is in the front room its hard. I thought about getting another one but I cannot handle 2. I do leave the tv on.

I leave the tv on, maybe I will try animal planet...I dont think they can tell the difference if there is an emergency surgery on tv...haha!!:D

Hum! has me stumped, Roger is he just cant stand being alone period, he also has a issue with being locked up in any way, It is like he has to see someone at all times. or he gets upset!

My puppy is almost four months old and we recently started with a test series (i am a student) and we have lots of essays and assignments, so I don't have nearly enough time for myself, let alone for him as well. I do all my work at home, but still have to attend classes and write tests, so I am away for quite a lot and when I am home I work or sleep.
He is definitely showing separation anxiety symptoms. He whines when I start to get ready, wants to get into the shower with me:eek:, pulling at my clothes as I am getting dressed, etc. He doesn't whine when I leave though, he learned early on that whining gets you nowhere.
Luckily the test series ends today, but then next week we start with exams!!
Sorry for the long post, but I don't know what to do to make him feel better when I leave. He bites me when I get back. He is going to puppy socialisation classes from tomorrow, so maybe that will help?
