I feel bad for Shadow I just want to share with you how horrible I feel for leaving Shadow home alone all day7:45am-4:30pm sometimes even longer that 7:45am-7:00pm. I was thinking about getting another yorkie but they are too expensive for me to buy at the moment and I'm afraid another dog will be too much work for me. I do not have the choice to stay home, I HAVE TO work to survive in this expensive city. Thanks for reading this. |
I know how you feel. I've always been stay at home since I got my first furbaby and I still thought they needed another playmate. Maybe you can purchase a few interactive toys so that while you are away your yorkie feels less lonely. You can get a treatball where you can record your own voice and when the puppy kicks it around it will "talk" and dispence treats! You can also get a KONG dispencer that will every 2 hours toss out a kong filled w/treats. This will keep the puppy busy. Also, could you afford to hire a dog sitter who could come to your house an hour a day and play w/the puppy or take it for a walk.. sometimes it just takes a little bit to make all the difference :) |

My husband's mother picks him up one or twice a week from 9am til'' we pick him up at night. I do not trust anyone with my apartment keys otherwise I would be willing to pay someone to dogsit him. My Mother in law would never take money from us otherwise I would ask her to go over to my apartment daily to spend sometime with him and take him for a walk. |
Your not alone on this matter. I always feel so bad leaving mine. :( Just remember in order to care for that baby you have to work. I'm sure your little one understands your not being mean. ;) |
Im in the same boat! Quote:

Maybe you could have a neighbor stop by from time to time!:animal-pa |
How about looking into Doggie Day Care for the days your in-law does not have him. |
You could find a dogsitter that would watch Shadow in thier own home, so you don't have to trust anyone with your apartment keys. |
Same story here, I'm single, have to work full time. I had one little guy and thought, he's GOT to be bored. I got him a shih-poo bother, I mean brother. I'm not sure if being by himself bothered Otis as much as it bothered me. But I decided to have another dog baby. I leave the TV on, they perch themselves on the back of the couch and police the neighborhood from the front window. I'm sure they sleep a little too. Otis is 3 and Oliver is 1. Oliver plays a little too much still and drives Otis crazy sometimes, but they do love each other. I would definately say they are bonded. Getting another dog may mean a little more work, but it also means A LOT more love!! |
That's so funny i have the same exact problem! Living in NY is just so expensive. My Bailey is usually alone for about nine hours, but she's been alone as long at 11 hours. I also looked into getting a second puppy but they're just too expensive and then the vet bills on top of it all. What i do with bailey is leave her a kong treat filled with peanut butter and cheerios and i know that keeps her occupied for a while. As soon as i get home i also take her for a long walk, usually around 30-45 minutes and that helps her burn off some energy, if not she won't really sleep at night. I don't know about you but i have no back yard so she really needs her walks. I know its hard but i'm sure you're doing all you can for your little one. |

I know exactly how you feel about leaving your baby home alone. I hate it, but like you, I have no choice in the matter. Even now... Daisy knows my routine and when I am dressed and ready to go she will start to shake and when I take her to the bathroom where she stays... she barks and growls. She never does that except when I leave her and she only does it for a few seconds but it breaks my heart. She was very very sick when I first got her and she is still very small (2 1/2lbs) so to me she is and will always be MY baby! The odd thing is - even though I do put food, water and toys in the room Daisy will not eat, drink or play with the toys!!! Now What??? |
I know the feeling.... I have five furbabies at home and even though they have each other and have a whole bedroom to themselves with a loveseat, dog beds, water and toys, I still fell awful when I leave for work. I pretty much have a set routine, I come home for lunch to let them out, relieve themselves and run around outside for around 45 minutes then it's back to work. Then I come home after work to let them out, feed them and then their out for the rest of the evening till bedtime. But if my husband and I decide to go out for the evening and we return home very late, I will stay up with them for a few hours before we go to bed because I feel bad that they have been in their room for most of the day. |
