Try a step-in-harness. They are very comfortable and look really cool. Several members make them here. They also come with matching leashes. They come no where close to the neck. |
Collar user Hi. I admit that I am a collar user. My yorkie is three months old and he is trained to walk with his leash on his collar. He doesn't pull at all and I don't need to pull him. He is on the bigger side though (about 3.4 pounds already). I guess if you train them correctly, the use of a collar when walking doesn't have to be banned. |
Eeks, I was just trying to help.. Elisandra, you are making me feel most unwelcome. I honestly saw three different posts about people talking about people having their dogs in a collar and a leash. Hey, everybody has to be new sometime. |
Without hijacking this thread - can I ask if one of you very helpful members might post a picture of the type of step in harness you use?? I bought a basic one at the petstore when I first got Vixxen, and hated it  But it was a generic one - I would just get confused trying to put her legs in - lol! |

 I agree with another poster here! I just trained Truffles in a class and the instructor was more than understanding about her size and what we chose to use on her for training! In fact, the other BIG dogs didn't have choke collars on however there were one or two that barked alot or were just a bit out of control and she did suggest choke collars for those dogs. Run if you "have" to use one ;) |

No! We welcome you! I think "most" of us here welcome your suggestions and questions, whether we've heard them all before or not!! What would we have to talk about if we never asked the same questions that others have asked? -since they've already been answered?! LOL! I know the majority of us here have said or asked the same things over and over...no worries! Please keep posting and don't be afraid to ask something you think we may have already answered! :) Trina |

Good luck in finding a harness solution that works for Vixxen! |
Chloe has a really expensive leather collar that Daddy bought her with her name on it in crystals. She only wears it as a necklace, though :) She wears a harness to walk. |

How about trying Chattiesmom's harnesess that she makes! They are great! They are step ins, and silky, and very easy to use. They don't even go around the neck, only the front legs and around the chest!!!!! I think they are great!!!!! |
some pics Here are a few links to pictures of step-in harnesses. They vary, of course, in design a bit but the basic idea is the same. The dog "steps" into it with the result being straps around the shoulder blades, under the armpits and a strap across the chest. Link 1 Link 2 Link 3 Penny's is actually like this one (with two straps through the chest meeting with the connecting strap. Only her connecting strap is lower so it doesn't come near her neck, just across her chest. Hope some of these pics have helped! |
I'll try to get pics of my harness. Camera is charging right now  |
4 Attachment(s) I admit I used a collar until I read here not to. They never pulled but they didn't like them, & would run & hide when it was time for walks. So they were the smart ones. They knew they were bad for them. I ordered my 1st harnesses from Amberlv. The leash attaches to the middle of their backs. They love them & love their walks. Misha has long hair & the step in would matt her hair. The shirt style works great. |
I use a Harness also !!!! :) |
Collars are only for tags and/or smashin' fashion. There are safe ways to use them for this purpose ONLY. For leads, harnesses the ONLY safe way to go. |
