How to curb/stop Puppy barking for attention? Hi, I'll be getting a Yorking puppy in the very near future and reading up first ..trying to learn prior to purchase... A main question: I'd want to curb/stop a new puppy from barking FOR ATTENTION. Whats tjhe best way to do this? going up to the crate and saying NO..is still attention?? Saying No or QUIET from another room? Using a spray bottle of water and walk away?? Any help is appreciated:) |
I got my Prince about 2 months ago. His first night in the crate he cried a lot because he slept with me his first 3 nights here. When he started to cry that first night, I would ignore him (as hard as it was) I would tell him "No Prince, sleep" Never would I go to him while he was crying. In about 2 days he got the idea what "sleep" meant and would stop crying at night when I told him to sleep. Hope that was helpful ;) I'm always worried that he'll develop a fear of water as my mom's terrier has, so i'm weary of spraying him with water as punishment. |
thanks for the reply..makes sense..just trying to be prepared as best as possible :) |
Like Apache said, ignoring him is the best way to keep puppies from barking for attention. Say quiet, and when he quiets down, reinforce the behavior by then giving him attention. If he continues to bark, don't give him attention. |
