My Yorkie is having pee pee accidents Help!!!
 

Hello, This is my first post. My name is Chrisann and my yorkie's name is Cinamon. He was a yr old in december. We've had him for a year now. He was newspaper trained when we got him at 4 mos, so I just continued with that. when we got him we kept him in the kitchen with a gate and a wee wee. At night we put him in a cage. Little by little he earned more freedom. He did have accidents, but it seemed to get better. So now he sleeps in the bed with us ( My husband is not happy about it) and pretty much has run of the house. when we are out he is confined to the first floor ( Upstairs in wall to wall carpet. Downstairs is throw rugs. Well we travel often and when we are away my friend watches him. It seems like whenever we go away he has setbacks, well we just got back from florida a few weeks ago and he has been peeing and pooping under my dining room table, the smell is so bad that I finally had to take the rug up today. I really need some suggestions because my husband is getting fed up and i am not getting rid of my little doggie, I love him.
also any ideas on how to get the smell out of the rug also would be greatly appreciated!!!

Wow, this sounds familiar. Gracie is 100% trained to her pee pads, BUT whenver we are away and our kids watch her (they come to the house and stay) she has accidents which the kids say are deliberate. I think they are, too--I think she's just upset with us for leaving her. Most of the time we take her with us but sometimes we just can't. She realizes she's not supposed to do it--when the kids or I notice it (when we get home) she immediately puts her ears back and tail down and goes under the bed...haha...what a stinker!

Honestly, it sounds like he just misses you when you are gone. Thats probably why he has "setbacks"...he misses his mom and dad, just like a child would. And expresses his anxiety by rebelling, once again, just as a child would. I'm sure he would appreciate it if you took him with you on your travels, if at all possible.

When your friend cares for him while you are away, does she stay in your house with him, just come visit to feed/water/play with him, or bring him to stay with her?

When we go away Cinamon ( we spell it with 1 N I thought he was too small for 2 Haha ) stays at our home with someone here with him ( only at night though our doggie sitter has a 9-5 Me on the other hand I am home all day with him.) But on the weekends my friend than takes him to her house being as she lives an hour away. Now that summer is coming we go down the shore on the weekends to my inlaws house. Cinamon is welcome to come but I am too afraid to take him when he keeps having accidents. we did take him 2 xs to my mil house and the first time he was great ( this was before the rebellion I guess) the 2nd time not 5 min after we got there he pooped on her rug. Any suggestions on houw I could retrain him, maybe just start training him to go outside. I feel so stupid that I really don't know how to train him. I have a 4 yr old daughter and i don't even know how I potty trained her LOL!!!!

Lola did the same thing when I got back from visiting my parents in Asia. I was gone a whole month but my friend was able to come and feed/babysit her during the day. She did the rebellious pee/poo for a while and I thought it had something to do with me walking her and her discovering that she liked to go outside. I think it has partly to do with me leaving. but also, it had to do with her preferring to go outside, she's pretty dainty and doesn't like the feeling of her pee coming down (and not absorbing fast enough in the potty pad) near her feet. So, I've been walking her when I can (I shoot for once or twice a day) and she always goes outside. Now, that I've been back for a while, she doesn't have accidents anymore. I swear tho, for a while I was getting sooooo pissed off because I thought she did it on purpose. She would do it on the rugs and even on her own bed, then slink away tail tucked and ears back, like she was guilty and she knew she was in for it.
