Need Advice/Suggestions on Whinning/Crying I have had my lil "Izzie" for three days now....she is 10 weeks old and has been with me during the day since I have gotten her...however, next week will be the start of her staying in a playpen in my kitchen area while I am at work during the day. I tried putting her in it today with all her toys and she just whined and cried for about 45 minutes....she got herself so worked up that she started coughing....I leave the door open during the evening and she does go in and out to eat and drink and it doesn't seem to bother her, however when I close up the gate she doesn't like it....any suggestion or what can I do to help her with the crying/whinning. I have purchased the Comfort Zone and hoping that that will help her....I am so new to all this....any help would be greatly appreciated.... Thank You, Eileen (SweetPea53) |
I don't no if she can see you when you close the gate but i no if i lock mine in the kitchen and i am home she carries on like someone is killing her. but the minute i leave she goes right to sleep. She just doesn't like being in there if i am home so that might be what is happening for you to. |

We had our first Yorkie for a month before getting our second pup and it was a month of sheer frustration . The pup cried all day and all night , anytime he was put in his pen or his kennel . I was so not sure it was going to work for us and he was screaming loudly all night long ( I wonder what the neighbours thought ? ) ...then the second pup came available and we didn't hesitate to take him ...and guess what pup #1 settled right down ! I am not suggesting you get another pup but I wonder if your pup just isn't loney . Where does Issie sleep at night ... in a room by herself or in your room ? I love our playpen and the pups are very content in it during the day ...as long as they can't see anybody ! They sleep in a locked kennel at night .I would try putting your pup in the playyard and then going out as suggested to see if she will settle down , make sure she has all her familiar things with her , including her favorite bed ! |
Emma used to scream like you wouldn't believe a yorkie could do when we lived in the condo for nearly the entire first year of her life. This was GREAT with crabby neighbors who didn't like dogs! We tried crating her, a playpen, music, the pheremone air fresheners, tv, leaving for short periods, you name it-we tried it. Nothing worked well. We did get to the point where she only cried if we left her in the evenings or twice in one day, and she'd cry for 10 minutes no matter what time we left. We now have a house, and we got Milli the day we moved in, so she's not alone. I KNOW that Emma just hated us leaving, and being alone. Getting Milli has helped a lot. Not that I'm saying that you should get a second dog right now, but it may be something to keep in mind. It's helped with Emma's anxiety of being alone tremendously, and I love our little Milli! Emma and Milli both hate being penned up while we're home-together or separated. When we leave, we toss them two Kongs with the peanut butter flavored paste in them, and they seem to do ok to let us leave the house. They do bark and carry on when we come home and the garage door goes up, though! |
Thank you everyone for the suggestions. Never thought about her being able to see me while she's in the playpen  I'm going to try the leaving the house for just a little while today and see how she does. At night she is crated and has been sleeping next to me. There have been no problems at all....she goes right to sleep at night when I put her in her crate. |
