Barking!!! Having a Yorkie is a new breed for me. I have had pugs for years so I am curious if barking is a common thing for the Yorkie Breed and if so is there any tips out there on how to control/correct this? Thanks a bunch for your help!:aimeeyork :animal36 :animal-pa |
Conner only barks when he is on top of the couch, looking out the window, and he sees kids going to the bus stop. He will also bark at birds and squirrels. Other than that, he is a pretty quiet little guy. |
yes i think it is common for yorkies. my anna barks all the time. she barks at her toys or at new noises or when someone is at the door, when the phone rings etc. |
:animal36 Winston barks alot when he's looking out the window, or in his own backyard. When out in public he never barks at all. I think it's a territorial thing. The best thing I have found to control this is with sound, to distract him. Something like a clicker, or shaking a can with coins in it, maybe even clapping your hands or making a noise. Don't know if it will help, but I do think the longer you let them bark, the harder it will be to stop it. Good luck! Oh, and my husband says he "Woofs" when he really means it, like telling us he has to go outside...NOW... |
Katy only barks when she wants you to play. She drops the ball at your feet and then barks to let you know its there. |
Wes and Maddie sit by the window pretty much all day. They bark at anything and everything that walks by the window. We bought the citronella spray collar for Wesley and it did curb his barking when we used it. We haven't been too consistent with it, but I think that if we were it would work. If the barking is a problem for you, I would recommend the Citronella Spray Collar. |
I think barking is a big thing for this breed. Most I have met have Neopolition complex (very short guy who too over must of Europe and some of Africa). My yorkie Cozy believes that she is the protector of house and family. She will bark if anyone comes near that she does not know while my golden sits and looks at the person and then goes to see if they have food. Cozy will not let a stranger come near her or me. My one neighbor calls her "Cujo" or will say "Watch out the 10 pound pitbull is on the loose! Hide your children!" She would never do anything. |
