Libby went swimming! 2 Attachment(s) Oh my gosh...yesterday when I let Maddie and Libby outside to go potty, Maddie hightailed it to the back of the yard chasing a squirrel, with Libby chasing along behind. Libby took a turn towards the pond and fell in head first. I ran back there expecting her to be drowned, but when I got there, she was standing on a ledge near the edge of the pond with just her little wet head sticking out! I grabbed her and ran her inside to give her a warm bath. This water was stinky because it hasn't been cleaned out yet this spring. Last week it was solid ice, and just recently melted, so it was ice cold. I quickly gave her a warm bath and got her wrapped in a warm towel and then dried her and gave her some nutrical. I felt so bad I couldn't help but cry! I then called the vets office and my vet was in Bismarck, so I called him there. I told him what happened and wondered if she should be put on an antibiotic in case she inhaled or swallowed any of that water. He said he thought she'd be just fine and would have shown immediate signs of distress if she'd inhaled any water and that the water, although stinky, should be free of bacteria because of the cold weather we've had. Before we hung up, he told me I better sew Libby a swimming suit. LOL Even though he assured me she would be fine, I worried myself sick and kept picking her up putting her chest to my ear to listen for any weird sounds. After she took a nap, she was as wild and crazy as ever, but I did notice her scratching her ears. I emailed my vet and he said to put 5-10 drops of rubbing alcohol in her ears twice a day and let her shake out the excess. So, she doesn't like that much, but I'm doing it. I am not as worried now, but have to admit, I'm a bit concerned just because she went through such a traumatic ordeal and my biggest fear is pneumonia. My vet assures me she will be fine, so with that and prayers, I have to cling to my faith. I'm just so thankful she's still here with me! The pond is now drained and will stay that way until I get a little fence up to keep her away from it, although I have a feeling she may not want to go anywhere near that pond again!!! Here's a couple of pictures I took of her last night...is she darling...or is she DARLING??? |
Well, I think she is just darling!! So glad she is okay. What a scary thing..the water must have been soooooo cold. |
Awww, Connie. What a scare, but look how sweet and cute! She knows how to work the camera, doesn't she! ;) |
OH yes!! she is DARRRRRLING!!! She really is...I'm in love! I want to see more pics!! Poor little baby in that yucky pond! I remember a bunch of us were at a hotel and we were all sitting around the pool. I had the girls in an x pen and my husband insisted "they're fine. the pool is all fenced in" and let Vixxen out to run free. Well she ran a straight shot as if the pool was still solid ground...never even realized it was water...and fell right in!! She swam on impact and my husband was ready to jump in but she came right to me. I felt horrible and was pissed at my husband!! LOL! Ran up and dried her off-poor baby. But hey, now she knows and she has never done that at home with our pool!! She can run around the yard and not fall in now! LOL! |
awww.....she is really darling! Sorry about the bad swimming lesson! |
Oh my gosh, Connie, she's a sweetheart. :) I'm sorry you had that scare though. Glad she's fine. :) |
Connie I know you must have been scared to pieces. These little ones can worry us no end. I am glad she is ok. She is absolutely adorable!!!! |
Wow - what a little daredevil she is!! Must be the 2nd child syndrome. Look at that "look" in her eyes - like "I know I'm cute, so you'll love me no matter what!!!" Too bad you live so far away cause I think she and Angel would get along quite well!!!!!!!! Glad to know she is no worse for the wear. Sounds like major baby proofing (and then some) awaits!! |
So glad she's ok :) She's just adorable. I could see her and my Trixie getting into major trouble together :p |
Naughty girl Libby!!! but, how can you ever get frustrated at that face, she is a doll. I am so glad she is ok and I would have been a wreck as well. I remember when my Yorkie was younger I was on vacation and we rented a cabin by the water. I was holding my baby in my arms and I'm not sure exactly how it happened but he slipped out of my arm and I dropped him in the water. I about had a heart attack I jumped in so quickly, luckily it was right near shore and the water was clear and he bobbed right up. I just started crying cuz I felt so bad, him...well, he was off and troting in a matter of seconds as if to say..no biggie mom, I'm ok....:) Gotta love em |
She IS a darling! So glad she's okay. Sounds like Mommy needs a drink though. I hope your nerves calm down soon. |
Gotta LOVE those "Tom-Boys", and she's the cutest one yet!!!:D |

Oh, ConnieI'm glad she is ok, I know that is so scary, Lulu has fallen in our pool twice. I am always in the yard with her because it's so dangerous. Libby is just so adorable. She looks like she is feeling just fine. |
Thanks for all your responses! I'm so happy to say that Libby is feeling just fine and dandy. I should have named her little Rascal! She's just so wild and crazy...and I love her so much! Maddie is loving her too...not always, but most of the time, they get along great and Maddie is very patient with her. Libby likes to walk under Maddie and it's so cute. They play chasing games quite often and that's my favorite of the things they do. Anyway, just wanted you all to know that Libby is doing great! PTL! |
Connie she is just precious. I know I would have called my vet to I am such a worry wort over my little Shasta Daisy . Please check her out! Can't wait to hear from You!Reva |

Poor Connie E-mailed me, she was so upset. I think it scared her more then it did Libby taking a swim. I know she was a little dare devil while she was here. Anyways, the main think is she is OK. Libby stop scaring your mom...;) |
Libby is just beautiful! I know how you feel, too. I got Rebel last October and had just had a goldfish pond put in. He always avoided it, but one night he began running like crazy around the yard with Lucy right behind him and went right in. Lucy stopped in time, but my baby Rebel didn't. Lucy went bonkers until we fished Rebel out. I did the same thing you did. I took him in, gave him a warm bath and wrapped him in a towel straight out of the dryer. It took several days for me to relax with him. He was soooo tiny at the time. He's 8 mos old now and weighs 3.5 lbs. |
