house breaking hi, No I don't find this to be true, I had no problems training Willis as a pup. Although he was and is pet carrier/crate trained, Do you have a crate? Willis always went in his crate through the night in our room, and it taught him to hold his pee, it really works, although you have to make sure the crate is not too big,as they would still pee in a corner. During the day time I would leave his crate open, He was fine during the day, used puppy pads, which he always used and I slowly moved them to the back door and finally outside the back door. Give tons of praise when they pee outside, and use a word of your choice (i say wee wees) when they go, eventually the word will get them to wee on comand. hope this helps. :) |
house training i was presuming you have a pup, but you don't actually mention that, so you might not of needed all that advice sorry if it's no use to you.:rolleyes: |
They can be very difficult, but that is true with many smaller breeds (tiny poodles, maltese, chins etc). It can be done but it requires time and persistance, patience, and a schedule. If you have more then one family member EVERYONE has to be on board. Don't forget Yorkies are VERY smart so don't underestimate them! :) Kathy |
I have found with my Yorkies, I have had 5, they all have had accidents here and there. I find with the pee pad trained ones, they seem to have more accidents then the ones I outside trained. Just my experience. |
I had a yorkie for 9 years before he passed. I don't remember him being a problem to housebreak at all. I did the crate training also. I get my new puppy on the 27th of this month. I have decided to train her to use the Purina Secondnature system. She is so small. It is like a litter box training method. I hope it works. |
I think it is harder with Max then my 2 girls were. I also think I am more laid back with Max on training also. I don't catch him as much when he slips into the laundry room to poo. So I put the blame on myself not Max. |
housetraining I trained both my female yorkie puppy and my adult male yorkie by using the crate...haven't had an accident in a very long time...I let them out at lunchtime before I go to work...so they are never longer than 6 hrs..both have free run of the house and sleep in the bed. roxanne in nc |
It took Ging a year before I could call her "house trained". But I know some people here have done it in much, much shorter periods of time. It was strange, because I knew, she knew it was bad and she shouldn't do it, because she was hiding it. But it was like she couldn't hold it or just didn't feel like going outside. |
My eldest Missy will still sneak 1 in the house, she hates to go out at nite time, and do you know i can never catch her.lol. My other boots would hold hers in all day if she had to. I wud take the advice of hollywillis as this is excatly what i done with Boots I have her from she was six weeks. The reason i think I wasnt successful with Missy is she was 6 months when I got her. Im also doing this kind of training with my new addition Betty. Good luck, just have plenty of patiance and it will pay of. |
