Difference between Silky coat and Cottony coat? Can someone explain the difference between Silky and Cottony? I've seen several threads use this term and I am confused...is silky softer like silk? And cotton a little more rough and wire-y (Sp?) |

Chloe's coat is very fluffy...kinda feather-like really, but the vet called it a "cottony" coat. This is her puppy coat. I was told by someone on here & by a vet that her adult coat will be silky because her puppy coat is like this. Hope this helps. :) |
2 Attachment(s) My Otis has a cotton coat. There is a definate difference. His coat is very thick, and he stayed black. I'll post a pic. I'm pretty sure most silky coats are silver, but I could be wrong. I'll attach a pic of my flop earred, cotton coated boy. He's just about the most handsome thing I've ever seen!! |
Can their coat change from cotton to silk? I am not sure what Annie has...it isn't shiny but its very soft. The hair on her head isn't very thick but her body hair is. The hair on her head is silver, and her body is turning silver. She is 5 months old now. Kasey |
Chachi has a silky coat, it is very straight and shiny. Ollie has a cotton coat, hers is never as shiny and is fluffier. But Olie actually gets less matts than Chachi does. |
Look at my girl in the my avatar. :) She has a really wonderful silk coat...for instance she can be bathed and then towel dried resulting in not even one knot! She really would only need to be brushed about once every other week. It's great! |

The cotton coats are very soft and they matt easily and the silky ones are cool to the touch and their care is a lot easier. The cotton coat dogs seem to be the darker coated ones, I'm thinking it must be something in the pigment. But I love them all the same!... |
1 Attachment(s) I think maggie might have a silk coat. But the top of her head seems more soft and cottony. I really am not sure. I just know her hair doesnt mat hardly at all and it hangs pretty straight and kinda close to her body. I doesnt stick out. But I do think the cottony ones are pretty as they look like they have soooooooo much hair. I think maybe she might still have some of her baby coat, especially on her head. heres a picture. can anyone tell by looking, what they think she is? I think i've ask this question several times but she changes with time. Or she might have a mix of cotton and silk , does that make sense? |
aww man I hate these pictures after I resize them down. it just pulls out the white and makes it look all gooky. |
