for those of you who posted pictures of your tinies... I was just wondering where you purchased your tiny babies from? if you don't want to post then I would love a PM Thanks in advance Jenelle |
I'm curious too, because I really want a tiny (3-4lbs...2 may be too small) but I want to get one within a reasonable price range and from a reputable breeder. It would just interest me to see where they all came from. |
email a couple of breeders that you like in general, get to know them and ask them if theyd email and think of you when they have a tiny available :) |
Reputable breeders don't breed for "tinys". Once in a great while, one might have one in a litter, but, reputable show breeders that breed for standard, generally place these babies in a home that they know will give them the extra care they will need. You will find breeders that do try to breed for these "tiny"babies, but generally, it's done for the $$$$$$. Believe me, a 5 or 6 lb. Yorkie is still a small baby. |
dont know whysome people are always looking for tinies. I have a 6 lb yorkie and she is small. Before getting a tiny you should read in our sick yorkie section and see the ones that are sick or have been injured. And the vet bills arent cheap either so if you dont have the money to ppay extra for a tiny your not going to have the extra money needed for vet bills |
I do have the money for a tiny (I'm paying $1,800 for my new puppy in May) so money isn't too much of a question...I just don't want to pay $5,000 like some sites have tinier dogs for. I think that's a little ridiculous for a dog, IMO. |

Well $5000 is too high but the reason some breeders price tinies higher is because they want them to go to a home where their new owners have the money to take care of them |

It;s a matter of preference, what size of a Yorkie you want. People with kids look for a bigger pup.... Some want a tiny . I wanted to get a tiny myself (no more than 4 lbs...) and am VERY happy now that Pepper turned out to be a boisterous 6 pounder. He can do things I wouldn't let a tiny, but is still a very small dog and can fit in the same carrier as he did being 3-4 lbs... - or maybe I got stronger?? :D |
I have no kids at home, but when I started my search for a Yorkie from someone who shows them, I wanted one that would be 6 to 7 pounds. I love that size much better. My Zada is overweight right now due to Thyroid, and weight 8 pounds. Azrael is her 1st cousin and came from the same breeder and weighs 7 pounds. |

I have a tiny London and I can tell you where I got her from if you'd like to know but she came from regular sized parents. Her and her brother were the smallest 2 that they ever had...they don't breed for tinies. Sometimes it just happens. I know what you mean though when you say you want a tiny...I like dogs of all sizes, shapes and colors but with my London I am very happy because I am able to take her with me wherever I go. I don't take her somewhere that she will be uncomfortable of course but when I want to go places and I have to take the train, etc it comes in handy that she is small because I just take her in my carrier and no one knows she is there so there is not a big fuss and it's easier. I have another yorkie Teddy that is 8 lbs. I love him to death and I wish I could take him everywhere with me like I do London but it is difficult because he is so much bigger and I cannot carry him. Plus he does not like to be carried. Usually when I take them both out my bf goes with me and he helps me. Now if I had a car it would be a different story. I would take them both everywhere together. But I live in NYC and that is not possible. So I understand why some prefer tinies such as a 3 lb dog, but wanting like a 1 or 2 lb dog is ridiculous. That is very small. I didn't ask for a tiny it just happened and she is very healthy. :) |
I got Pixie from Stardust Yorkies and she is a healthy3 lbs, but she came from standard sized parents and a very reputable breeder. Cali is 5 lbs and from a backyard breeder that I had no references on and she has been sick so much. In my opinion the best way to go is contact reputable breeders who occassionally have a tiny from standard parents and have a good reputation. |

If you purchase one of these dogs, you are just buying heartache. Please trust me on this. I have being doing rescues most of my life and know what it feels like to invest so much time, energy, and love in these little dogs only to have them pass away at a very young age. Don't take the chance. I would rather have a Yorkie who is healthy and happy then one of these tiny little ones who will be sick for the rest of their short lives. Yes, it is possible to get one of these small ones (below 3 lbs) who don't have any health problems but in my experience, they are in the minority. Are you willing to take such a big risk? |
