yorkie drinks huge amounts of water......... my neighbor was telling me that her little girl drinks soooo much water - in fact she has to take the bowl away from her! her little sides poke out and she waddles around after that. she has one of the that provides a continuous supply of water. is this bad? could it be something she needs to have checked. she says the vet says she is fine. |
Well, when we crave huge amounts of water, it could be diabetes.....could that be in dogs too? I don't see why not; I'd get a second opinion. These babies are too precious to take chances. |
Of course, I would have kidney issues and diabetes ruled out (or anything else the vet suggests) but my JoJo has always had huge amounts of water. I was terrified that something was wrong with him but all tests came back normal. The vet agrees it is a lot of water (about 17 ounces a day) but there is nothing medically wrong with him. She said for his energy level, 12 ounces would be expected. With all this drinking comes constant urination, so I would not attempt to train him outside. He goes a few times every hour and usually once during the night. Gotta love the wizdog (indoor potty system)! We recently adopted Gucci and I can really see a difference. Gucci is almost 7 months old (2.5 months younger that JoJo) and urinates once every few hours and drinks a lot less water. |
My Pom was just diagnosed with Cushing's Disease and one the symptoms is drinking excessive water and wolfing their food down and hair loss. It usually affects dogs who are over 5 years old. Hopefully she just likes a lot of water. |
Excessive drinking could definitely be UTI, kidney related, diabetes, etc. Have them check her out. |
Get a simple blood test done to rule out anything. My male drinks tons of water but the blood test came back clear so at least I don't have to worry. She may just simply like water...but better safe than sorry. |
