driving panic atacks My little Kukla is only 6 months ,and she used to be happy driving with me all the time but since she was a litlle sick and I had to keep her in the house for a couple days now every time that I get in the car she cryes non stop until I get back in to the house, please help me ..... Thanks Kukla's new mommy! |
Ah poor little Kukla!! I think they go through various "fear periods" as they grow up. Obviously she has decided that there is something scary about going out in the car, probably for no reason whatsoever! I'd persevere and try to take her most days if you can but only very short trips that always end in a real treat, a great walk etc, a visit to people she likes, anything to make her feel better about this!! Good luck!! Sure you'll see her through it. |
Higgins goes through periods of not liking to ride in the car. He and Pogo get into Alpha Dog spats about who sits where and "he's touching me" and other things just like kids! But he would far rather go than be left behind at home. It will be interesting to see how the long trip south goes. He used to be the perfect traveler, so we'll see...... He HAS to be able to see out a window! Pogo could care less and just goes to sleep. Higgins has to watch the world go by. I think they go through fear periods, too, just like all small kids do. |
I feel better now!! thank's so much for sharing your experience with me ,today when we got in the car she pee, but after she play with my sisters dog she got better. thank's again I love this website all of the members are so sweet. Soon I will post Kukla's picture.... :) |
Welcome to YorkieTalk roquendo23! :) I'd say try to make sure she doesn't need to pee or poop before you place her in your car, and that she is fed and isn't thirsty. Other than that, perhaps have a little car seat where she can see outside or can see you when you are riding around. |
My Snoodles is awful in the car! She wants to go something terrible, but then whines and jumps around like crazy. I keep taking her, as she loves it and hope she will settle down soon. As soon as I grab my keys, she's at the back door, then rduns to the garage door, jumps into the car, and then starts whining. My husband can't stand it. If I am alone with her, she will stand on my right arm and she is pretty good. But, hope she will get better! Has anyone else been through this and have suggestions? Pat |
I know everyone frowns on them going in their crates ... but ... because we travel by car so much, this is what we do and it works beautifully for Toto and for us! We have two "It's a Breeze" portable crates ... one for Patrick's truck and one that's a little smaller for my convertible. We place them directly behind the console facing forward and keep a little bed on the console. That way she naps on the console [or most of the time on my lap] and if she wants food/water or wee wee pad to potty, she simply goes in her crate and does her thing! If we are traveling in both vehicles she can ride with either of us and the only reason we have to stop are "human" breaks!! The other thing that I really like about this arrangement ... we don't let her on the ground very often and certainly not where other animals have gone potty! All rest areas have those darned signs ... "Pet Walk --> " ... or "No Pets" on bathroom doors! Hey, I have seen dogs on those pet walks that scare me ... can't imagine a little one like Toto feeling confident enough to relieve themselves with a huge dog standing there!! :p The only reason we ever zip the door closed is if we are out of the car for more than a couple of minutes and it's not in our sight ... it's not that we don't trust Toto in the car alone, but we don't want her in plain view for others to see her! These things work for us and Toto is just the best little traveler you could ever want!! :D |
Wow! Sounds like you have it made! I also have pillows on the console between us. I do use her halter, and leash, and if I am alone, I will ltie the leash to the headrest on passenger side, If it is just quick, I will sit on the leash. I let just enough out so she can lay down or stand on my right arm. For longer trips, when she gets bad, we put her in her crate, and cover her. She is very hyper in the car. Still am hoping she will calm down. The whining really gaets to one after a while. Pat |
