How can I tell if they are both playing? When Maxi (boy,6) and Coco(girl,4 months) play, her ears are down , but his are straight up. Does anyone know what ears down while playing means? They look like they are both having fun , but I can't really tell. Help!! |
I always thought that when the ears go down that it means they are afraid or intimidated. |

Maybe that's just what she does when she's playing. :p I just said that because I noticed that when my Oliver gets scared, his ears go down, even if he's playing with another furbaby, and then he usually wants to be saved, lol, so he'll come running to mommy. ;) |
I think the ears down can mean excitement...at least that's what it seems like with my little Jake. His ears are always up, but it seems when he's really excited (like when someone comes home), his ears go down and he runs around in circles until you pick him up lol |
I wondered the same thing because thats what Sam does at times. But he is the one running after his brothers and biting at them. |
you know what, i just read jakes mom's reply, and now that you mention it, you're right, when i come in from work, and oliver meets me at the door his ears DO go down. I never thought about it until now. So how come when he gets scared they go down too? I'm all confused now for real! lol  |
i have 2 yorkies too ! i have 2 yorkies and about the same age buddy is over 6 months be 7 months the 28 of april and maddy is little over 4 months and 1 week ! they play together all the time and i let them but,,, always there like mommy should be there ! for the extra care ! so just be the extra eyes and im sure things will go well..:) :D |
I think as long as they both look like they are having fun...they are! :D If one of them was frightened, intimidated, agressive, etc. there would be signs other than just the ears. |
I thought ears down and tail down mean they are being submissive. |
Fortunately, iy looks like they are both having fun when they play. They usually end the session with lots of puppy kisses ! |
:) I always thought ears down and back is taking the submissive position. Umas' ears do that when playing with Juju or me. |
I think it's because she really does want to play, but also wants him to know that she is being submissive so he won't hurt her. |
I think as long as the tails are wagging and they keep coming back for more, then they must like it. Sometimes I wonder the same thing too. |
Ears down doesn't necessarily mean play or submission. A dog's body language can never be read by looking at one particular body part. Dogs that are ready to bite can still have a tail wag, for example. Ears back can mean many things and one of those things can be excitement. |
