Hello I am new to YorkieTalk, and will welcome any advice for making certain our Taffi is a healthy, happy little girl - who will be one year old May 3. She's a finicky eater - turns her nose up at most all food - started lamb Natural Balance with Ultra kibble yesterday. She's eaten a small amount. And now I see where the Natural Balance venison and brown rice is recalled! I really do not want to feed Taffi only chicken I bake, as she needs more than protein in her diet! I look forward to posting other messages. |
Welcome to YT. You'll find lots of friendly informative people here. We're full of info!:D You can search the thread for all kinds of info about feeding and training your furbaby. Most vegies are OK for Yorkies and they usually like them. I feed mine cooked vegies with her evening meal - carrots and broccoli, mainly cause she likes them so much. Good luck and Welcome! |
Welcome! I'm not sure about your food question, there are lots of helpful people on here that will answer your question. But I just wanted to say hello! :D |
I've only had my Yorkie for a little over 2 weeks, so I'm not a pro at this at all. I do know that the Vet said to feed him high quality puppy food - So far - So good - He gets that and a treat here or there. But I'm afraid to give people food - or try to many different kinds. I figure the less he knows about the easier it will be to feed him. |
Veggies Taffi loves uncooked carrots and sweet potatoes - however, they really are not digested. It's the protein and other essential nutrients I'm worried about her not consuming for strong bones, healthy vision, kidneys, teeth, gums - etc., etc. |
People food Even though Taffi might whine a bit while we are having our human meal - she does not get fed from the table. Yorkies are "social" eaters so we try to dine when it is her time to dine as well - she's still finicky! |

welcome to YT...you will love it here! |
Welcome, and I love the name Taffi, it's so cute! We have a more holistic type pet store in my area and they gave me several sample sizes of different high quality dog foods when I changed foods. There are a lot of posts on YT about what ingredients should be in the food and what is to be avoided. I ended up with Innova and both of my boys love it. I would keep trying until I find one she likes and that also has the best ingredients unless you prefer to make it yourself. They are all so different in their preferences so keep trying! If you can get the small sample bags for free that should help. |
Innova Yes, I started Miss Taffi on Innova for puppies - she refused it - I don't think she likes the herring, whatever fish ingredient is in this brand - so tried Wellness as well - same result - although she will eat the baked salmon I prepare for human food! Her vet says she will not starve - I'm the one who is obsessing! Thank you! |
Try Canidae All Life Stages. Not many dogs will turn their noses up at this! Add a little warm water or chicken stock to get her started if she's kibble-shy. :) Good luck! Also, try to stick to the "normal" ingredients like chicken and lamb, so if she gets allergic to things later in life you can start her on the more exotic proteins like salmon or bison or venison or rabbit. |
Also, if you want to do "people food," here's a homemade recipe that some boxer people use. It's a big thing in dobes right now and dogs LOVE it. Looooooooooove it. It uses a pressure cooker, but you could do it in a normal pot. With as much as you can make with it, and for the price, you could feed her forever! :) http://www.boxerlife.com/recipe.htm |
Thanks - will try to locate this in my area. |
HI and WELCOME ! I'm in Houston too :) |
In Houston Too! Your girls are adorable! Do you groom them yourself? I'm terrified to groom Taffi - she's a wiggle worm! |
