Worried 'soon to be' yorkie mother I just have a question, my boyfriend and I are getting our first yorkie, Lily, in a few weeks. We found a breeder and have been visiting quite often. This week, the pups are 5 weeks. I was just wondering, about how many weeks does it take them to actually walk without hesitation? We visited today and Lily seemed to have a hard time walking. Her front legs were fine but it seemed as if she were dragging her back legs or not being able to lift them enough. My boyfriend is getting me worried because he keeps wondering if that is normal or not. I dont think she has been able to really run around too much, which may also be the problem. I appreciate any responses, thanks! |

You should see big changes each week now until 10 weeks of age - They don't get up on their legs until about 4 weeks and then gradually get more coordinated each week - keep watching - by 6 weeks she should be going pretty good- Some lines are different than others - I have some that are going strong at 5 weeks and some not till 6 or 7 are they are running around good. |
Sometimes some puppies take more time to walk . Is the little one walking on a wood floor or on a carpet ? Sometimes puppies have difficulty to walk on wood floor . |

I will also be a new yorkie mom in a few weeks. And my baby is also 5 weeks old this week. My baby and his brother and sister aren't walking very well yet either, but the breeder said this is how they normally progress. Does Lily not walk as well as her littermates, or do they all walk about the same? Out of curiosity: When is Lily's birthday? When are you bringing her home? |

We are bringing her home either the 29th or 30th. Hopefully she will be ok to go on the 29th so we can have the whole entire day free with her. |
Slippery floors are not very good for the puppies when they start to walk . |

Are you bringing her home at 6 or 7 weeks of age ?????? I am not going to voice my opinion of that until you confirm what her age is to be when you are going to bring her home. |

How exciting! My Wobie was born on March 10, so they're pretty much the same age. I'm bringing him home when he's 8 or 9 weeks old, which is considered pretty early. I think 7 weeks is really pushing it. If you're worried about her development, maybe you should consider leaving her with her fur-mom for another week or two at least...I'm not an expert or anything, I'm just kind of regurgitating information I've been told...;) |
