Dog Contests Does anyone here routinely participate in dog/pet contests? Not the ones that are for AKC or anything like that, but the local ones that you see around? I was just wondering, because I have not noticed any posts about participating in them (other than my own :) ) Or do most people here feel that those are not true contests and shouldn't be supported? Both of the ones that Summerlin has been in donate their proceeds to the local humane society.... Any one have any thoughts? |
Where in Fl are you? I've never seen any local dog contests. If we have them, I'm missing them. |
Me neither and I live in Florida too - sounds fun I would love to enter Murphy and Mia - where in Florida are you? :D |
I am up near the Georgia state line... the first one I entered was actually in GA, in Valdosta, just up the road from us. The one Summerlin was in yesterday was in High Springs, near Gainesville. It is supposed to be on Channel 20 on Tv, but we don't get that channel with our satellite. I have googled things like ["dog show" florida 2007] and ["dog contest" florida 2007] and found several in Florida. There is one in Orlando in June, I think, one is St Petersburg and down in Key West. My mother in law lives down south, so I am going to try to make our visit to her on a weekend when there is a contest I want to put Summerlin in. We also go to Savannah, Ga every fall, so I am hoping to find one around there too. It seems like they are mostly put on by the humane societies and local animal shelters - to raise money for their cause, but I donate anyway, so I figure I could have some fun while I am helping them raise money ;) |
That does sound like lots of fun. I've never participated in a contest like that, but thats because I don't have my baby yet...I sure would love to! I don't think anyone here would have anything againt these types of contests. How can you argue against raising money for charities? |
I would love to participate in such a contest! I didn't know they existed though... that's great the it benefits the cause, and if it's local I imagine people don't take it so seriously. Nothing wrong with taking it seriously in the big shows, but I just want to be a proud mom showing off my boy and having fun with him in the process :aimeeyork |
