Question about Micro-chipping Hi I am wondering when, what age,or weight should you micro chip your yorkie? Our vet said she does not want to do it until Roxie hits 3 pounds, but from what i have read on the net, some breeders micro chip their pups before sending them to new homes. I really want her micro chipped, but also wnat to make sure it is safe to do it now, she is almost 11 weeks, and weighed at 10 weeks exactly 1.5. We go back to the vet on Tuesday and I really want her done, as I am also taking my mini poodle in and getting her done also.. TIA Renee |
i have no idea about this but I am curious to know what is the best microchipping device or service to use....there are a few to choose from. we have really been talking about this a lot...I'm excited to see some of the posts about this.... |
As soon as The Vet says its okay I would do it. They are a must have especially in a yorkie! |
i got morgan's done when she was spayed. She got a HomeAgain chip since that's what our vet has. With all chips, the needle is pretty big and that's probably why your vet doesn't want to do it till she's bigger. However, some breeders do get it done before the pup leaves. the pup may scream or they may not even notice it. it all depends on the pup. it give you a picture of how big the needle is think of your earrings, they produce a 18 guage hole. The needle for the microchip is a 10 guage (the smaller the number, the bigger the hole). it bleeds for a few seconds and you really can't notice it when its over. |
I had a pup stolen.... so I wanted a microchip as soon as possible with my new baby..... My breeder did it before I picked him up... she said he didn't cry at all..... He was 12 weeks old and 1.3 lbs.... He never even acted like it was tender but I know it would have to have been..... I was carefull though . |
We got Summerlin microchipped at the dog show yesterday. She yelped when the lady pulled the needle out, but that was it. She didn't show any signs of discomfort after that. My mom also got Snowbee microchipped, she weighs just over 2 lbs. She cried a lot when they did it, and then she didn't want to play with the other dogs at home, so it must have made her a little sore. They had the HomeAgain chips at a discounted price at the dog show, so we got them there. The HomeAgain website has a comparison of the different brands of microchips, and HomeAgain seems to offer more features. Hope this helps.... |

I think I will talk to them on Tuesday when I go in, I really wnat it done asap. She is saying not until 3 pounds, but I really want her done soon. We live in a very busy area, I am home most of the time, but do have to leave when I take dd to and from school and also I spend alot of time at the school. Thanks! |
Im getting My new yorkie is going to be chipped before I get her , the breeder is suppossed to do and yes it is deffintly somthing you will want to get done they come in handy as long as the chip dont move , I had that problem with my yorkie Shasta Hers moved its not on her neck anymore . :) |

I had my Maltese done at 2 1/2 lbs with the Home Again microchip. He did cry when they did it but has never acted like it hurt after that. |

I would have a through discussing with the vet asking exactly why she wants to wait. Maybe the needle/tool they have is too big for your baby's size? If it's something along those lines I'd go somewhere else for the chip, so it's the most comfortable and appropriate for your pup. My boy was chipped by his breeder within his first 2 months, so size and age doesn't seem like it should be an issue. |
