Help!!!!!! I just received a call from by breeder about my furbaby and was told that she took her to the vet to get checked out since I will be coming for her next week and was told that she has a small hernia. I was told that it was minor and some tiny dogs get them. The breeder will take her to get it done and will pay for it. Should I be worried about this, does this mean that I will have problems in the furture. She told me that I should not have any problems. Please help has anyone been through this or heard of it. Our lab mix had a hernia after a not-so-good spay and it disappeared after a while. I cannot, however, speak for those who get them naturally or how they are in small dogs. Good luck to you and your pup. |
.....once the hernia is closed it should be fine, as it's only a hole in the skin which can be repaired. .....leave the puppy with the breeder until she has fully recovered and you are happy with her. .....i would ask your breeder for a written statement from the vet saying that the dog is now fully mended and is now 100% fit with that problem sorted.....also ask for 6 weeks free insurance from the breeder. ;) ....good luck with your new puppy ! :animal-pa Debra x x x x |
Help!!!! Thanks for all the good information, but I dont live near the breeder at all theyare located in MO, and I am in MD. So how could I still ask for the 6 weeks of free insurance. |
The only problem you may have is if you are planning on breeding her later. It could come back even if it is repaired. The belly swelling with carring puppies can cause alot of stress in that region. Even with repairs done they can and probably will come back. I would ask a Vet about it, and not the one that did the surgery. Vets don't like to admit that their work maybe undone later. Most will tell you it could happen but probably not. Hope this helps. However is this the only female she has? If she has another one or will have another soon I would wait and get another one from her without any problems. I mean thats what you paid for was a puppy with no problems so thats what you should get. Or get a nice price break for this one, if you are not going to breed her. |
I dont plan on breeding her and she stated that she will pay for this minor surgery. She stated that if I get it done then she would take off 50.00 of the price for the pup. You right I dont want a pup with any problems knowing that I am paying for her. Is it best to get another pup instead. |

Here's a url to read regarding hernia's. http://www.showdogsupersite.com/kenl...umbilical.html Everyone has given you good advice here - I feel you should contact your vet and discuss this issue as well as ask the breeder for the vet's name that is doing the surgery so you completely understand the situation. You need to be comforatable with all of this. If you have any hesitation you need to discuss this with the breeder. Your pup has a genetic health gaurantee. Good Luck!! |
