Does Maddie have bad vision? Maddie always seems to get surprised by objects when we are out on walks. For example, plastic bags always scare her. She will whip her head around and bark like crazy when she sees on out of the corner of her eye. She also gets scared by other inanimate objects such as large rocks. I am beginning to suspect that she has bad vision. Does it sound like it to you? Also, is there a way to test her vision? :confused: |
I don't know if there is a test or not.I have also wondered this about Rocco, it seems like he doesn't see things that Sissy can spot,like the cat from the window. |
I've been doing a tremendous amount of research, and nearsightedness is very common in dogs. This is the only sense that we can actually compete with our doggies (their hearing and smell are way beyond what we can even comprehend); their vision is more motion and light sensitive (prey oriented) They'll fixate on a non-moving objects, or even have a hard time seeing a tennis ball from a few feet away. But a tiny squirrel dashing up a tree further away and in low light will catch their attention and off they go chasing. . . They do have much better peripheral vision (dogs can see 250 degrees w/o turning their heads, while we can see, at best, up to 180 degrees. So don't worry, this is normal for dogs, if that rock got up and moved your baby would be able to identify it better. And what she doesn't have in sight she makes up in hearing and smell. |

I'm relieved to hear that this is normal as well. Got concerned recently when hubby would come home from work and baby would go nuts ... he didn't seem t recognize him. Especially if it's dark out or in the house. |

2 Attachment(s) ......very interesting thread - i've wondered about Tammy ever since i got her last october....she woofs when my hubby comes into the room or when he gets up from his chair, then sloaps off back in embarrisment at her fuss over nothing ! .....she hears far better than she sees. ....i've also noticed she is the only one of my three little ones who doesn't like coming up our back steps. ....she either refuses or makes a run for it....i don't think she can see them all that well. ....it's good to know it's not unusual ! ....thanks !!! :) :animal-pa Debra x x x x 1.
