Male vs Female I am looking for a puppy. I am thinking that I would prefer a female, but I wanted everyone's opinion! What are the differences between Males and Females? Please help me decide.... thanks |
I really dont think there s much difference between a male and a female they all have their own personalitys. There are more cute clothes and accessories for females. I have one of each |
You dont have any problems with the males spraying?? Are they just as cuddly? Do you find a difference in training them? |
My male was easier to train. My female is more cuddly. My male doesnt spray but I had him neutered at 7 months. At least he doesnt mark in the house he will mark outside |
I have both and I agree, Chachi. They both have their own personalities no matter the sex. Some are more cuddlers and others are more playful and cant sit still. Just as , Chachi said there is lots more options for girl clothes then boys.. the only thing I can think that would deter me from a boy would be , some really feel the need to mark.. but w/ ours we just keep a belly band on. and put pads in them... So for me it really turned out to be a No big deal... He is just a pure sweetheart as well as our 2 girls... I could not depart w/ either one :) |
I just got my male puppy like 9 days ago and he is the most precious loving thing in the whole wide world...Obviously my answer will not be very objective but let me tell you something: He is very smart, cuddly and loving. In my case, i knew that i always wanted to have a boy and I didnt even know why...At some article, I read that male yorkies are more cuddly and easier to potty train...my precious baby boy is very smart and he already know where to potty...i guess in the end, it really is up to their personalities...as long as they are healthy babies, who cares if they are male or female :) |
I guess, just like humans, male or female makes no difference it's all in the personality. Good luck with your new little one. I would not make a preference until you see them first hand. You will know which one is right when you see it. |
the difference between a male and a female is not different than the difference between any two dogs. They all have individual personalities, and if spayed/neutered, either will make very nice pets. |

I've had males and females and I believe that the males fall in love with you and the females just love you. My males always followed me around, cuddled with me, worshipped the ground I walked on. I worked with them to respect our home so they didnt mark inside. My females are always in competition with me - who gets the most compliments when we're in public. They win hands down! :D I really think a puppy picks you. Just looking at a puppies face, features, their little bodies will call to you and whether they are male or female won't matter. All you'll know is you're hooked and then you're life begins. |
Archie is absolutely correct, it's the personality not the sex...I set out to get a girl two years ago & ended up w/ a boy w/ no regrets at all...then 1 1/2 yrs. later I set out again bound & determined to get a girl again....I ended up with boy #2....each time I found a pup on a web site I wanted the girl, but each time I went to the home to see them in person it was the boy who stole my heart....maybe #3 will be the girl...:D |

Females mark too so if you have one doing this , the problem will be the same as with a male . The best solution is to let the puppy choose you . |
I have a zoo with both females and males. Honestly? You can't tell the difference between them unless you stand outside to see which ones lift their legs. Or if I have the girls dressed in pink clothes. Otherwise, you really can't tell. Each is so different personality wise. |
I think the females are more attached to the man of the house and the males are attached to the lady of the house. My boys are crazy about me and the females tend to be very loving but have more of a diva attitude. They want love when they want it and the boys always want it. As much as I love my girls, I am absolutely crazy about my males. |
Thanks for all the opinions! I apperciate it...... |
I have one of each and love them both equally! I know a lot of the times boys get bad reputations for marking or humping but I have never had that problem with Jaden. They are both very sweet and loving and I'd say either way you can't go wrong. :D |
I agree with everyone else. I've had both females and males. I've had females that hump and males that hump. I've only ever had one issue with a male marking in the house and that habit was taken care of promptly! I would have to say for me personally, in regards to this particular breed, my male is very affectionate. I love my females too I think it just really depends on the individual dog. With these sweeties, you can't go wrong either way (p.s. i definitely agree that the little girls cloths are adorable!) Kathy |
I have a male yorkie and a female maltese, and they are both wonderful. My boy was potty trained very quickly. We had him neutered at about 1yr and we don't have any problems at all with humping or marking. My yorkie is super lovable and cuddly!! He wants to be with me or my husband all the time :) Our female is also lovable and cuddly! and wants to be with us always! I think it totally depends on the specific dog's personality, not the sex of the dog :) Let the pup choose you :) |
I have to say my male is MUCH more of a Mama's boy than my female dogs are...he is my constant shadow and loves me more than anyone or anything on this planet has ever loved me....he is a real cuddle bug!! Dawn |
