Just found this out... I live in a little village. Moved here two years ago. I went to register my three dogs so that I can take them "legally" to the dog park. I get their records etc. and head to town hall. I tell the lady I have three dogs to register, she nicely says..You have "two" dogs? I'm looking confused, and I say..three dogs? She smiles and says two? Finally, she whispers..You can't have three dogs in the village, the ordinence is two dogs. I had NO idea, I figured since I own my home, have a fenced in yard I can have what I want. She said it would only be a problem if someone from the village complained and was aware of the ordience. I told my husband that if that happened we would move b4 I get rid of a dog (I am dead serious) or I'd have to make up stories that my dog is just visiting or something? I hate rules!! Kathy |
In the town where I lived last year, the limit was three. BUT, I doubt very seriously that you would have a problem. THis rule is for the uncaring individuals with quite a few dogs that will not properly care for them. Where I live now (out of city limits), there is no limit. Sometimes, I wish there was! When people own half a dozen dogs with no manners that bark at ALL hours of the night, it can be nerve-wracking! |
I live in a smaller city (about 50,000 people) and there's a bylaw that only allows 3 dogs, but you can have as many cats or other animals as you'd like. So not fair. We have 4 dogs ;) , 1 cat, a rabbit & a pet mouse (eww...my sister's). Pit Bulls, Pit Bull mixes, and Pit Bull-like dogs are also illegal in all of Ontario. |
I read an article recently about a couple who live in a retirement community that does not allow children. They are caring for their grandchild because the mother is in recovery (drug abuse) I think. They've been told they must remove the child from their home or leave themselves. Their home has been put on the market but hasn't sold as of yet. Sad, that some people would force them out of their home because of a toddler that is staying with them temporarily. |
[QUOTE=PuppyLovinNurse;1061663] but you can have as many cats or other animals as you'd like. QUOTE] I not sure I understand why you can have as many cats as you like. Don't cats smell more than dogs? (because of the litter box) Maybe not, I was just always under that impression!;) |
Never heard of such a thing if you own your own home. I'd do some research to find out who & why they started such a silly ordinance. |
i have no idea what the limit is for our city...but i'd move out to the country before i got rid of one of my dogs! |
