As far as the cheerios are concerned, I don't think you have to worry about your baby gaining weight because of cheerios as treats. Many of us use cheerios for training purposes :) |
Where do you all find these "teapots?" I have been looking for a larger one but all they ads claim they will be smaller - usually 5 pounds or under. I would love to have a 10# + girl! |
Just wondering what is the difference in a teapot and a regualr Yorkie? I am new to the site and was just wondering mine is about 4 lbs. and is over 2 yrs old. I didn't actually think there was a difference in a larger and smaller one just the same breed and different size. |

The standard size is 7 lbs and under. Teapot is a name that was came up with on here to descrbe yorkies over 7 lbs |
My teapot stopped growing at about 10 months. He is a whopping 9 - 9 1/2 pounds of energy. The breeder said he would be about 5 - 6 pounds and the vet confirmed that when he went to his first checkup (at this time he fit into the palm of my hand). I love his larger size. When I get a sister or brother for Conner (or should I say if), I would also like the larger size. |
So many people call the smaller ones teacups even though the word is frowned upon by reputable breeders and people started calling their larger ones teapots, I think as kind of a joke on this forum....All yorkies are toy dogs...Akc only recognizes them as toys, not teacups or teapots regardless of size :) |
I love my Teapot. Thats his photo in my avatar, with the snow balls all over his body. He reached his full 11lbs by about 9months, but that can vary by dog for sure. I still carry him around and I also have wrist problems, I just kinda carry him like a baby w/ his paws around my neck. No, he doesn't fit into my purse but dang he is cute. My Biewer was supposed to be around 7lbs well..he is 6months and already 8lbs so??? I must just be destined for teapots for now!!! I love the tinies, don't get me wrong they are adorable and some day I may add one to my family, but I am very active w/ my dogs (rollerblade, hike, etc) and my teapot does all of this with me.. Sparks was supposed to be 5.5lbs. He was 7lbs by 6mos. I freaked! He has not really gone up since and he is 1 year. He filled out a bit...so he may be 7.5 but has stayed steady and now is changing colors again. I purposly got a smaller dog to carry with me and take to work and I am only 5'1" and he is tough to carry. However, he is more "durable" and I like that and lot's of fun to cuddle. suz |
My Tootie was 4 lbs. at 12 weeks! He grew until about a year.. he is now a Whopping 16 lbs!!! he is SUCH a bundle of joy and has the best yorkie personality I have ever seen. I love my baby girl but his personality is much more outgoing and YES he will eat anything like he is starving, well, except dog food.. haha Love My Teapot Boy! but maybe he is a tea KETTLE.. d |
Sophie weighs 12lbs and stopped growing around 9 or 10 months. We were told she would weigh between 5 and 6 lbs. She is still small enough to take places with us and I carry her around all the time. I like her size because she can go to the park for long walks and doesn't tire real easy. She is a bundle of fun.:aimeeyork |
For my boy, he grew rapidly until 9 months when he reached 10 lbs. By his first birthday he leveled off at 11 lbs. and that's where he's stayed since. I'm glad he's on the bigger size because he can play with my parents' lab mix (she's gentle and careful with him, he's a little terror to her!) and I can walk him like any other dog. When he was so tiny in the beginning I was concerned about how far and long I'd be able to walk him, but now I have a time keeping up! |
Laughing at tea KETTLE reference Ozzie grew very rapidly during his first year, stopping around 9-10 pounds. Then he added another pound or two during the next 18 months, and another pound or so by age 5. Stopped right around 12-13 pounds. He is about 13.5 now, but he has added at least a pound since being neutered last year. LOVE having a bigger guy. The littler guys are precious and adorable but I know I would be absolutely paranoid with one under 7 or 8 pounds! |
my kirby had a growth spurt after a 1year of age. he grew taller and longer adding about 3lbs. this is due to poor breeding. makes me sick but i love him anyway. he is a cutie |
