So Angry! I was on Long Island this week and went into a big, fancy pet store in Lynbrook. The prices were reasonably high, they had greenies, some very nice organic treats, and they even had Snoop Doggy Dog's line of pet things. I could tell right away that they were your typical "don't ever buy a dog here" pet store. I went to the big room where the puppies were - and immediately went to see the Yorkie babies - how could I resist? Of course they were adorable. I asked the salesperson about prices and got the usual - "This one is $1600, this one $1500 and that very small one over there is $2800." I very innocently asked why that very small one is so much more. You know before I write it what the answer was! Teacup! Not only that, she was only 8 weeks old. I was really tempted to tell this guy off, but he was only an employee, so I kept my mouth shut. There was a family right there - 2 grandparents and a little girl. You could tell Grandma wasn't buying a dog there either, or I would have said something to her. I was really angry - greenies and teacups, and they're making a lot of money. Rent in Lynbrook is high. These owners have no integrity, and no matter how many times they talk about it on tv, people still buy dogs from them. Judy We've been egged:yelrotflm |
i would have been angry also..sorry you had to go thru that... |
I went into a petstore a few weeks ago too. I think I just needed my "yorkie fix" since I'm still waiting to get my baby. Needless to say, I shouldn't have even stepped foot into that place. They had a teeny baby girl for 2500, and a medium sized boy for $1800. The baby girl looked really young, wayyy too young to be away from her mommy. :( |
What a shame, its so sad that these places can charge that kind of money, and whats even worse are the people who purchase these little ones without even knowing there are no TEA CUPS:thumbdown |
Sad.. I bet all of those yorkies are from puppymills.. poor babies.. really hope they find a home where they will be loved, esp the little ones who need extra care.. |
Why do ppl still buy from pet stores? I would think with the media attention to the problems that it would filter down and stop families from buying these pups. I saw pet store that had a link where you could watch their pets live. They had over 25 dogs in a tiny space - crates stacked on one another. They had large and tiny breeds all cramped in this space. Their claim was that by you being able to view the animals you, the buyer could see how well the pets were cared for. I just sat and cried while I watched these dogs. |
that so sad! i dont understand why these kind of pet stores are still open. i mean dont people hear and read about puppy mills??? when is this going to end??? |
If you think that place is bad...you should check out the rest of the petshops on Long Island. |
Thats is so sad and so depressing to see such young puppies there. I dont go into those stores anymore cause I would want to start a major fight. I just dont understand why people buy from places like that, but because they do thats why those evil places stay in business.:thumbdown :thumbdown |
