Using my dog as a stud My puppy is only about 4 months old. I am possibly thinking of using him as a stud but I don't even know where to begin. I do know he needs to be a little older. How do you advertise? I would like a female pup from his litter as payment. Is that wrong? What do you charge? Where do you find someone who needs a stud? confused? |

I bet you could research on the internet. I have seen stud dogs advertised on Puppyfind.com but I am not sure that is the best route to take. You could call one of the breeders or stud dogs on there though to "pick their brain" so to speak. I would also post this thread again in the breeder section. They will ask to see his pedigree. Is he being shown? Is he on his way to being a champion? How close is he to "perfect breed standard"? Probably too young to tell yet since he is only 4 months. You usually cannot assess show or breeding quality until 6 months at the earliest I think. Good luck. |
In addition to all of the info that Kim posted, I would think long and hard how this will affect him as a companion pet. I read a post on here and it was either Pat or Rini that posted that a stud is marking and humping machine! That fact alone would make me think long and hard about it... not to mention whether or not breeding him would produce the standard and be free of genetic defects. |

My Chester has been a daddy to 3 litters. I studded him out 2ce to a friend. He is still my baby and maybe age has a lot to do with that. He's just 2 years old. He marks his territory in the back yard and if I take him anywhere, but he stopped humping after he finally bred the first time. But yes, I have heard of male studs that started this behaviour. Hopefully, Chester won't ever do this! |
studs I have never had a trained stud, but with females around all the time I am sure that is the reason. Mine do not hump, but they mark and must wear a belly band when not confined in their area. I find males to be much better pets when neutered...but there are exceptions to every rule. |

Yea what YorkieRose said . Also if the female has burcellois, it can make your male sterile. |
