morkie owners help!! hi I'm getting a morkie name: chrysler nickname: none yet when getting him: my birthday gender:male age:8 weeks color:tri-colored so he's black, white, and brown all over and I'll tell more later. |
Oh please post pictures when you get him they are so cute! |
Hi from another Morkie Mommy. Hi. Welcome to YT. I have three Yorkies and one Morkie. My Morkie Tia is pictured in my Avatar. Although, I don't advocate "Buying" a Morkie since rescue has so many mixes up for adoption, I will tell you that they are GREAT dogs. Tia is beautiful, very calm and gentle and potty trained better then my full Yorkies. LOL. I guess she got the best of both in her and the mix of both made her a little calmer (I think). Best of luck to you and I'd love to see pictures. Elaine |

this is it 4 Attachment(s) hi here are the pictures and I needed help with knowing the breed cause I know nothing about it I know about yorkies but not a maltese or morkie but I would like to know the way ther soppose to wear ther hair cause I wanted his hair to grow out, I wanted to know what is the most they weight up to, I wanted to know if they get along with other animals better,I wanted to know some recipes that you use for your puppy cause the pet food recall I wanted to cook food for them myself and lastly pictures this is how he should look I love the mixed colored one's yup. |
A "Morkie" is not a "breed." It is a combination of 2 recognized breeds, but is not a recognized "breed" itself. You cannot tell what they are "supposed to look like" as there are no set standards for these types of dogs. You can get a guess from someone and you may end up with a similar looking dog, but I doubt any breeder who mixes breeds will be able to tell you which genes are dominant and which characteristics from which parent will show up in the offspring. It's kind of like "potluck." The pictures you have posted are cute though! What puppy isn't adorable. I can see why you would be excited. |
Hi From A Morkie Mom. Hi ILUVMORKIES. As I said I have a Morkie Tia. Tia is a year old and she weighs 4 pounds. Really, as far as the size goes it will depend on how big the parents were. Usually, the mom is bigger then the dad. Like Yorkies, a Morkie can generally weight anywhere from the size of my Tia all the way up to nine or ten pounds depending on how big the parents were. I have three Yorkies that are on the bigger side all weighing 10 pounds or over. In so far as how to cut the hair. Well, Tia looks just like a Yorkie but champagne color so I chose to have her groomed like a Yorkie. You can see various pictures of her if you go to my photo album under jrsygal37. Knowing the breed you have a mix of Yorkie and Maltese and both are very similiar trait wise. You can check out www.spoiledmaltese.com and that will help you out a bit with the Maltese part. Feeding; I free feed my Yorkies and my Morkie. I use Nutro Natural small bites and leave the kibble out all day for them to pick on, then at night I add boiled chicken chopped up very fine and mix it in with brown rice and some very finely chopped cooked carrot. Your little one looks like he/she will take after the Yorkie more then the Maltese but at such a young age it's really hard to tell. Very adorable though!! Best of luck. Elaine |
Hi. I just wanted to pipe in again and say that Bamfan is right. A Morkie is not a recognized breed. It's really simply just a "Mutt" that years ago would have never went for what they go for now. Designer pups I think they call them now. LOL. I like to use the word "Mixed up Pup" rather then mutt - sounds so much nicer. Tia my Morkie came out of a classified section of our local paper. I fell in love and was happy to bring her home with me. More than that I was happy that I bought her second hand rather then feed into all the hype of mixed pups being sold for the prices of pure breds. My point to this is PLEASE if any of you fall in love with the Morkie or any of the other mixed up pups being sold as designer pups PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE check out your local rescues, shelters etc. chances are you'll find what you're looking for and the best part is they will already be vetted, spayed or neutered. Hate to sound like a commercial but more than that I hate to see mixed breeds being purposely bred and sold when so many are already available at our local shelters. Elaine |

A Yorkie Maltese mix can look anything from a Yorkie to a Maltese and anything in between. I do pet grooming for someone that has two litter sister of Yorkie/maltese crosses, now 12 years old, and they do not look at all alike, one looks more like a very light coloured Yorkie the other is black with a white chest. The Yorkie looking one has erect ears, the other large floppy ears. Also, in my experience with pet grooming, most people that mix breeds do not start out with purebred parents which in this case a purebred Yorkie bred to a purebred Maltese. Most are crosses that look like a purebred so the offspring really can be almost anything. |

thanks everyone |
I joined this forum when we got Piper our morkie. She definately acts more like a yorkie than a maltese. Misha is more laid back, our Miss Prissy. Piper can play all day & loves to run. As for size, go with what the parents are. Just love the colors of them. |
I love the brown, balck, and white color together on them it's just so cute |
