VPI denied payment for Tiggy's surgurey i am so angryyyyyyyyyyy Tiggy had a femoral head ostemcy , and they denied it. the surgurey cost 2,000 dollars. their payment would have been 900. I am planning to file a lawsuit for this. I have all the documents and the doctor's support and records saying it was a diseased hip joint. VPI labeled it as Hip Dysplasia (FHO) Surgery CODE Z48 - condition or service not covered by your policy I am so enraged. Their customer service line is useless; they have no information whatsoever and can not help me. NO MORE VPI!!!!!!! any good lawyers that handle dog insurance cases? |
Stay away from VPI insurance! no more VPI, they blatantly denied Tiggy payment for her surgery. They were suppose to reinburse $900 out of the total cost of the surgery $2000. I am planning a lawsuit already as it is in violation of their insurance policy. STAY AWAY FROM VPI!!!! |
I had VPI as well even though Rocky's surgery was only a Neuter not anthing else although i did shell out $405 bucks for it all i got back from VPI was a measly $85 dollars. I think it's just rediculous how they decided to label what surgery goes under what code what's the sence of having their insurance if they wont even give you half of what you pay. I cancelled it as soon as i got the check. |
I'll play the devil's advocate here and say that maybe it was a coding mistake. If it were coded incorrectly, it would get kicked out and not paid. I just know that after my husband's motorcycle accident he had to have a skin graft on his leg where the broken bone had come through and a chunk of skin went missing. The insurance people coded that skin graft as "cosmetic" by mistake and it was rejected. Clearly it was not cosmetic and the problem got straightened out and the claim was paid in the end. You should keep trying to get ahold of them to prove your side. Never know, they may agree right away that you are right and that it was just a mistake. Good luck! |
thanks for the info! Rocky is so adorable!!!!!! |
This is why I do not have doggie insurance...I was considering getting it but.... :thumbdown |
I had VPI on both my furbabies but when Annika had a UTI scare and had to rush him to the doctor, they claim it to be pre-diagnosed prior to me signing up with them. I was so enraged I decided it was NOT worth. |
I have to agree with TatumsMom and say that it could be a simple coding mistake. My husband had to have a $2,500.00 test a few years ago. I called our insurance company beforehand and they said it was covered at 100% yet when it was sent it they denied it. I had to talk with them from the dr's billing office and straighten it out. They had updated their codes and added some new ones...the test was covered but the dr's office sent it in under the old code and it was actually now under one of the new ones. You might want to try again. Good luck! |
That's strange. Did you sign up with a pre-existing conditions or have a waiting period or something? Is the KIND of surgery your baby had not covered? Insurance companies are always so frustrating. I hope it works out for you. |

that's correct, and funny thing is when you file for the claim; you are NOT allowed to put your own coding; but the dianogsis. I am going to resubmit an entire package (like 50 pages) to VPI, and a statement that I will take this to a small claims court if necessary. I have Tiggy's surgery pictures and the hip ball still in a container.... I am sooo angry Just curious if anyone has filed a lawsuit for these situations. thanks! |
Yikes..and I was planning on getting VPI for my Mastiff puppy and of course my yorkie baby as well......... |
I am sorry you are having such a hard time with them. |
I am sorry you are getting stuck with the whole bill. But in all honesty, isn't that how human health insurance has become? We pay top premiums for ours and yet I swear I pay more than the insurance company does. And moving onto dental insurance......don't even get me started. Or take it a step further and look at your auto insurance. You probably pay an arm and a leg for it. Yet, if you ever really use it LOOK OUT!!! They immediately raise your premiums even higher so you can now pay all that money (they gave you) back plus some. Insurance stinks PERIOD!!! Okay, I'm done. LOL |

Abbie had the same surgery done in January. We were much luckier. We have Petcare Insurance and of our approximately 2000 in bills we recieved about 1750 back ( $50.00 deductible and ten percent of the bill we were resonsible for). We pay about 60 a month for the insurance and have gotten our investment back several times over. I hope that you continue to fight this because they should cover it! |
