Removal of Canine Teeth? Hello again I was wondering when do you normally remove the canine teeth on yorkie? Is it really necessary? Many thanks, Maria and Nene' :aimeeyork |
Yes, it is necesary, as yorkies are known for having teeth decay early... If you don't remove puppy teeth, food starts acumulating there and they will rot very, very soon... Besides that, food between teeth gives them bad breath... Usually people wait to remove them when they are spayed/neutered and sometimes microchipped, so they don't have to go under twice. |

I was so very very upset when Percy was neutered. They had to pull 7 baby teeth. And I have to say, honestly, you just explained the whole thing better then my vet did! I was still a little confused about it. |
All five of my babies had to have their canines removed and yes it is better to have it done during spaying/neutering. I have a 6 month old right now, my vet and I are going to wait another month to have his canines pulled and have him neutered at the same time...I would ask your vet since every dog is different. |

Thanks for your reply, do you know approximately how much do vets usually charge for this? One vet charges approximtely $200 to $400 out here in NY. Nene' is 10 months old today and I am not considering neutering him until he can be bred at least once. Silly question: Do the teeth sometimes come out on their own? if so how can I tell? Teeth will sometimes come out on their own, as well. We found one of Riley's one day lying in front of her crate. You will know if there is a problem because you will see one tooth coming in directly behing another without the front one falling out. |
I heard that yorkies tend to have it done....I must be lucky because Tootsie didn't... |
Each dog is different. My 1st yorkie didn't have any problems loosing her baby teeth and getting the adult teeth in. I had to have six pulled on my 2nd one (she is small 4 lbs) when she was spayed at six months. They charged me $36 dollars for all six to be pulled. So yes they can and a lot of them do loose them on their own. Just watch to see if the adult teeth are coming in next to the baby ones before they fall out. If this happens then you will need to have them pulled. Telea, Zoe' and Mia:aimeeyork |
