Traveling by cargo.... Hi, I'm traveling in a few weeks from Caracas (south america) to Miami, Fl. The airline wont let me take Violeta in the cabin with me. So If I want to take her with me I have to send her by cargo (they say they have a special place for pets nowadays down there) I'm really scared that if I do this It might hurt my tiny baby... She is 5 1/2 months and almost 2 pounds. Has any of you been through this... I brought Violeta from Paris in the cabin with me 10 hrs, it's just so ridiculous that they dont let me fly with her to Miami wich is only 3hrs. Please I need some opinnions on this. |
Do they know how small she is? I didnt think they would fly a small dog in the bottom of the plane anymore! Is there an alternate airline you could use? If not, jeez.. I know I would never let my dog fly underneath its too noisy and scary for them. |
Alexandrea, I would be scared to put my babies in the cargo area too. I agree, you should consider another airline. Or try to call the airline again, maybe the 1st agent you spoke too didnt know what they were talking about, at least I hope that is the case. I really hope you will be able to take your trip and have Violetta with you, I know that would make you feel so much better having her near. Please keep us posted. |
I agre with what has already been said. I would call that airline again and tell them she is very small and you have an airline approved pet carry on! If you don't already have one I would invest in one! I can't believe that they have a special area for pets in the cargo area. To me, all the areas in cargo are dark, not well ventilated and smelly!! If they still do not alllow you, then please try another airline!! Most airlines allow 1 animal in hte cabin as long as its in an airline approved carry on that fits under the seats. And they also make you pay an additional fee, which I think is worth every penny, knowing they are safe and are with you at all times!!!! I have yet to fly with Luig, but I have alredy done my homework!!!!! Good Luck!!! :animal-sm |
Yeap!! I totally agree with you... I told them that my baby was really small but they said it was their policy for that route. I think I'll better leave her home safely. |

I don't blame you! I would always rather have mine where I know they are safe rather than to take any chances! |
I think I would also leave her safe at home if I couldn't find another pet friendly airline. I think you would work yourself into a frinzy knowing she was in cargo if you took her. |
Continental accepts in-cabin pets... I would not fly my dog in cargo. I'm actually flying to South America with my frankie on Continental and he's going to be in- cabin with me. He's like 7 lbs. Yours is way to small to go in cargo. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rtraitcopy.jpg |
Awww Frankie is gorgeous! |
I hate to fly my babies but sometimes there is no other choice...most airlines that allow animals in the cabin have a limit to 2 per flight (in most cases) I only fly babies on direct flights (when necessary)....All airline rules have changed with live cargo, the cargo areas are pressured and temperature controlled and cant go below 63 degrees or exceed 80 degrees. So its much safer than it was a few years ago. |
Nope!!! I would not put Violete in the cargo, no way! She is much too tiny, and I'm sure that she would be so frightened. Call again and explain, maybe there was a misunderstanding. If not then as bad as it would be for you to be without her, I would leave her home with someone that you trust. She's much too precious to take a chance of something happening to her ...Theresa & The Boys :rose: |
I find when dealing with customer service personnel anywhere, there are many opinion's and rules change from person to person. I would call a few times, ask to speak to a manager each time - plead your case and maybe you'll get lucky. If so, get that person's name and phone number if possible. The funny thing is, once someone says it is ok, you can't seem to find anyone that says no???? It's worth a try, and only costs a little time. Georgious picture of Frankie! |
