My Mom OVER feeds them!!! I only work like twice a week so when I am at work I tell my mom if she can just put some of the dog food in their bowls. When I get home their stomachs are SOOOO ROUND and FAT, when I ask her why she says cause she makes them potato and carrots, etc. She is overfeeding them and I am frustrated!! |
my grandmother does that too..I just close Lillian in my room when i'm not home that way she can't sneak her food when i'm not there. |
When I visit my mom she has a tendency to do the same thing. But it's not with healthy things like carrots and potatoes. She fed Howie a handful of steak around New Years... 3 days of vomitting and diarrhea later and a $220 vet bill he was finally better again. You should really have a talk with your mom about how small and sensitive a yorkie's stomach is. She probably just doesn't know any better. |
my mom does it all the time...i think its in their nature to overfeed..kekek |
You should talk to your mom... I'm sure she wants good and is trying but maybe she can help out in other areas than feeding? The dogs would be as happy with extra walk or playtime as with extra food... Just a thought |
It is fustrating....and I think they'll never learn. My husband is much older than me and he always says "God Bless them" - when they eat good. He feeds them people food from the table - which infuriates me!!! Of course it'll be my fault if they get fat .....or sick! |
I had this problem with my toy poodle when he was young but it was my grandpa! We lived next door to them and Dax would hang out with my grandpa all day when I was at work. He fed Dax and his two poodles straight off the table..... whatever they wanted. Then he would also cook them gizzards and livers! That poor 7 lb. dog ended up weighing 15 lbs. when we finally moved away. He had luxating patella problems due to his weight. As soon as we got him on a good diet and he lost the weight, he very rarely had any joint issues. Every once in a while his knee would pop out and I'd massage it back in. I do think it's the "elderly generation" that, like the other poster said, has the "bless them" mentality when a dog is a good eater. You'll just have to be firm with your mom but of course that's going to be tough since she's doing you a favor and watching your pup for you. |
Ditto for my Mom and ANY animal! I am going to Florida to visit this coming Saturday and I will have to BEG her not to feed Betty...she DOES NOT need any help in that area!!! LOL!! |
