I never told my Mom when I got Pixie, my 3rd dog as she always worried about how expensive they were for vets and how upset I get when they are sick so I didn't want to upset her. Then she passed away and I never got to tell her or show her how cute she was. |
I get teased about it all the time at work but it is usually good natured and I usuallly don't mind. If you can't understand the way I feel about animals in general and my dogs specifically then I don't need you as a friend. One older volunteer in my library quit and I lost her friendship because of her attitude and my mouth. she said to me (In a really disgusted voice) "Who in their right mind would want three dogs?" Without thinking about what I was saying and before I could get my temper under control I blurted out "Who in their right mind would want to have 8 children?" Which was exactly how many she had. I didn't feel good about it but I think if she said it to me today I would still respond in the same way. It is all a matter of personal choice and I have made mine. |

LOL...Right!...that is why I kept quiet.;) |
I have referred to Lexi and gotten the comment "Didn't you already have a dog?" To which I reply, "no, I already had 2 dogs.:p " I get ridiculed alot from my grandfather for having dogs in the house. He is from the school of thinking that dog=animal=outside. |

I just got my fifth one I Know I'm bad. I moved to the country for my dogs. So I could do as I choose.I know people think I'm mental but I love them and they are very well taken care of. Most people think it's funny especially my family. I was never much for the dogs we had growing up I guess because they were my dads hunting dogs they were nice but they couldn't snuggle in your lap, and they weren't mine they were always his. So mostly people just make fun of me I could care less though it's What makes me happy not them. |
Its so nice to know I am not alone :) I no longer have the patience for people who judge/insult/criticize me of my love for my furbaby. I only need my parents, my one and only dearest sister and my hubby to understand and I have their fullest support. What I don't like to hear when they start insulting/judging me, I tell them off and I no longer mind losing a friend or two because they have been a pain my a** for all these years. Before I found this forum, I always thought I have a problem for loving my dogs and animal so much but it is not a problem, I am just being me and now that I am older and more mature, I am so much more comfortable in my own skin and my confidence grew so I am no longer taking s*** from friends who are not really friends. |
My husband mentioned when we were at his moms house that I got another yorkie. Well of course she said the same thing "YOU GOT ANOTHER DOG?" and then when she found out how much we paid it was like it was bash Tracy day for spending so much on the dog. Needless to say I jumped my husbands ARS when we left for even mentioning it cause he KNOWS how she is. Like it is any of her business anyway. |
my parents think i'm crazy...but i don't care!! The more the merrier! i love them all equally and wouldn't have it any other way..as long as i can provide for them i don't see why anyone should judge me |
Well, as far as my family goes, I've been an animal lover since birth and no one there is surprised! However, since my dh and I have no human children, others often make comments like, "well, you have so many animals since you don't have any kids". Like somehow, that excuses us:rolleyes: Surround yourself with other animal lovers. We went to a "dog club" for doggie socialization, and when it closed we kept it going in our own back yard. When you spend a lot of time around others who love animals, the comments from others stop registering! |
numbers This is why dog people have dog people as friends...when I had 10/15/20 Yorkies none of my friends thought it strange..they had the same..made perfect sense to them ... |
YES!! We have 4 now everyone is giving us a hard time |

Yep, I get that all the time. Oh well, they make me happy and the rest of the family that lives under this roof are happy to. I agree it's not for everyone, but they should keep their opinions to themselves. In my life I have met families with lots of kids 7+. I would never dream of telling them "why did you have so many"? Or when you notice a woman pregnant and know she already has 4 kids saying "oh my, you're having another when you already have four"? LOL That would be rude. Same thing if you asked me. It obviously works for our family. |
Yeah, I constantly have my mother complaining to me about having 5 yorkies and wanting to keep 2 more from this litter. I will have a total of 7 yorkies whether she likes it or not. I feel she doesn't live with them, she doesn't have to take care of them nor pay for any of their expenses so whats it to her. |
OH YEA MOST DEFINETLY!!! Just because I have TWO dogs I have been asked "What is your obsession with dogs?" For TWO dogs!!!! Are you kidding?? How is having 2 an obsession?? and Now I'm like so what??? YEA I am obsessed with yorkies...AND?? |
We have 2 dogs and are in the process of finding our third (our first yorkie in years!) I am so tired of the comments and eye rolling. As I've said to my dogs - there are dog(pet) people and then there's everyone else. Dog or pet people get it. The rest don't matter. Just think what they're missing and how empty their lives must be without the pitter patter of little paws. Must be so quiet not to be followed by the puppy posse everywhere you go! |
People who don't like pets/animals have always made me a tad nervous. I love how humans feel the right to judge everyone else. At the end of the day I know these people rest their heads with out any thoughts of me and I do the same.;) Animals don't judge and that's one of the big draws for me.:aimeeyork |
Oh yeah. We have two Yorkies right now, and we've decided on getting a third. When I mentioned this to my mother she looked horrified. Oh well, Mom's never been much of an animal person. I was always bringing home pets as a kid, and she always considered them a hindrence on her time, emotions, and traveling. Now as an adult, she still acts as though I'm going to expect her to have to take care of them. Crazy. I'm 34 now, and haven't left any pets in her care since I went to college at age 19. Crazy, Crazy. :) |
I get that comment all the time...people are always like...man how many dogs do you have? What did you get another one? etc etc |

I have been known to reply, why don't you have it for me or what business is it of yours? :thumbdown |

Jess, Since I've long passed the ability to have children (I have 3)...I usually just give people a blank stare and respond "Do you pay my bills?" |

Some people can be cruel.......some people can't have children so those types of stupid questions shouldn't even be asked. |
Just Jealous! I will be 44 yrs. old in May, and anyone that's ever known me.....knows that I am an Animal Lover. I probably would have been a Vetrinarian if I could have afforded to go to School? I've been raised around Dogs all my Life, I've Bred Pitbulls and I've had every Breed from a St. Bernard to a Mutt, but my Yorkies are my prized possesions! I've had as many as 5 at one time (2 Parents and 3 Puppies) The more the merrier! Right now I'm down to 3, I kept my tiny female that's 7 months old now. Instead of trying to "Justify" to all my so called Friends and Family as to why I deserve 3 Yorkie's? Their cost, their clothing which is functional besides being cute! And all the 99.9% of my time and energy that is spent w/them? I have converted them to become "Yorkie Lover's" too! When I was in Northern California, visiting my Mother, my cousin and her Parents came from the Bay Area. They had never seen a Yorkie in Person, that evening they bought a $900.00 Yorkie on the way home, that was listed in a newspaper Ad. After seeing my male Artie, that understands 3 languages;English,Japanese and Filipino, I made sure that he showed-off! It must have impressed them b/c they already had a dog (Bichon Frise) and they ended-up getting one in the time span of an afternoon! My Sister in Texas, got a Yorkie for a Mother's day present last year, she tried to wait a year and a half for mine to have Puppies but got impatient after her best Friend beat her by getting one from a popular upscale Pet store 2 weeks later her husband bought one from the same place @ $1,800.00 plus accessories w/c made her grand total of $2,500.00 Retail! The point of my long posts is........Everyone wants a Yorkie, but after they find out the initial investment costs etc. and the high maintenance and care they require? I've even had a total stranger call me an "Animal Hoarder" w/c applies if you have more than 1 Dog? I've heard it all! So at this point I just ignore everyone and smile.......your SIL is just Jealous of you! |
Good for you. You usually can convert animal lovers. The ones that aren't true animal lovers just don't understand, so I don't even try.... My mother has a saying "Beware of those that don't love Children, Animals and Flowers" |
